Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Recovery from the marathon is going well! Going from an 8 on the pain scale Sunday in the hip flexor to a 1-ish today is a near miracle in my book. Other than that, I have felt little soreness or tightness from the race, or maybe it is just overshadowing it too much :) Having a baby with Pneumonia (almost 30 hrs on antibiotics and still feverish :( poor guy!) has helped keep me benched these past few days. No gym daycare for me this week and sleepless nights lead to turning off alarm clocks in the morning! I did get out for a walk with Sandra Tuesday morning, it was slow and awkward to walk for 45 minutes, but totally worth it!

I went to the doc today about the hip and found out nothing I didn't already know - hate it when that happens, but at least now I know I'm on the right track. RICE and stretching on the docket now. I was told not to run until I can do it painlessly...hmmm, so if I don't listen to the pain I can run, right? No SF or anything involved, just a strain of the hip flexor (iliopsoas) (you should see me try and cross my left leg over the right - rather humorous!)

So, until the baby is feeling better it is just walking at home while the weather is good and some shred with Jillian. I may try and get up early tomorrow for spin class just to move a little bit! I keep making reservations at the gym in hopes of getting there, but then having to cancel the morning of. I think I should just put it on the back burner until Tuesday. Still hoping I can run the State Capitol Half this Monday....

I think spinning would be great for your legs. Anything that gets them moving without hurting your hip.

I walked for the remainder of my last pregnancy (after I was off bedrest) It was weird at first, but after a while I really started to enjoy it. It's not running, but it's alright!

So sorry baby has pneumonia! Hope he gets feeling better soon and you get some sleep and rest!

Glad to hear no sf or anything that stops you from exercising. But do listen to that pain level and take it easy. Spinning sounds good. Be careful running that Half this Sat. I heard it's a fast downhill course. Of course your legs love hills. But still be careful not to aggravate the left hip. We want you to be able to cross your left leg over right gracefully! :) :) :) Not to mention you have UVM coming up! Hehe!

Dang for the baby and the tired momma! But glad to hear that you have not torn or broken anything!

I hope your poor baby starts feeling better. That's sad.

I'm glad your pain level is low. That's good news.

Cool new pic. You were really flying.

Get healed up. After next week, i'd be up for some T-Th morning runs.

(Tell your babe i said get well soon!)

Poor sick baby and tired mommy, but maybe that's what it takes to get you to rest, you machine.

I don't know if I would do the half if I were you. I think you should take it easy until UVM.

It looks like the State Capitol Half has been postponed until July 4th. See info here: http://www.statecapitolhalf.com/

I'm sorry your baby has been sick. I think you should sleep in the rest of the week.

From Tom Slick on Thu, May 26, 2011 at 23:12:20 from 69.171.160.79

Well theres a bit of good news in your report....1. your feeling better 2. the baby is getting better and 3. the Capitol 1/2 has been postponed. #3's good cause thats a race you don't need to be doing with UVM coming and you need ing to get yourself recovered from Ogden and a baby that needs some TLC from Mommie!!!!! Just my thoughts! Ya all get better, Ya hear?

From The Quiet Pirate on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 11:44:12 from 152.26.59.252

Poor little D, poor Mamma RAD. I'm glad you're getting rest, just sorry it's because of illness.

Keep resting and don't push it. UVM is too important to blow it because you can't wait.

From Calvin on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 12:39:03 from 209.23.216.3

just curious, but do you really RICE? (especially with a hip - what do you do for the 'compression' and/or the 'elevation' part) i use that term sometimes myself, but for me it mainly means only 'ice' and sometimes 'rest'.

From RAD on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 13:18:15 from 98.202.17.113

Thanks all, and I did get the info about the half - made my decision to NOT run a lot easier. Glad I didn't sign up. Still not walking straight/normal with the hip flexor and still not going to the gym due to a sick baby. It has been a LONG week! Getting lots done around the house (when I'm not wandering around with baby in my arms since that is the only place he is happy) and catching up on the recorded TV shows from the last month we've been without a TV.

I don't know how people stay home and don't get a daily dose of exercise. I know I'm a little crazy with it, but I am having such a hard time not going crazy having to stay home! If the weather was better I could take him out on a stroller walk, but bad weather has kept us inside to boot. I tell ya, my 45 minute trip alone to pick up a costume yesterday (for wax museum at school today) and a short trip to the store was the highlight of my week!

It seems like we've finally turned a corner today. Cough is still around, but the fever is gone. Baby is still not happy - will play for 15 minutes, but then needs to be held and comforted for 20-30 minutes. He's been up for 3 hours and taken 3 cat naps already. Not quite back to normal, but with a clear chest x-ray yesterday we just have to keep treating him at home. Doc will be calling today to check in and we'll see what he says then. My 4 year old keeps yelling at baby because he is making too much noise whining.

Cal, yeah - you're right. Pretty much ice it and rest (elevation for a hip = lay down :) ). I do keep KT tape on it to help support it, but compression would take probably 20 ace bandages to get around my hips and thighs!

Hopefully a long weekend will heal us all up - mentally and physically and baby will be back to normal soon! Oh I can't wait to get back to MY normal life, pain free for me and baby.
