Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Okay, before you yell at me - hear me out!

Hubby was nice and worked from home a bit this morning so that I didn't have to get up super early to workout. It was nice to see some of my regular gym rat friends :)

Started on the elliptical and I had to use a weirdo one that seemed more like running motion, because the ones I like (without moving handles) were all gone. Spent 23 minutes there until one I liked opened up. Finished 37 minutes off there. Then, I went to the TM.

I started walking at my 6% and was up to 4mph - yeeehaw! At about 6 minutes, I was bored. I thought about running, maybe I could try...just one minute. Since I was going to do 30 minutes of walking every 10 min I could do the last 1 min of each set running. Just ONE minute.

So, I tried it out! I was only running 5.3-5.5 mph and again, was at my 6% incline. The only problem was that the running felt better on my foot than the walking! Strange. I don't know exactly why or if I was just dreaming this to feel this way. I have an email into my PT to ask him about this quandry. Either way, I kept myself only to the 1 minute. So, I finished up 3 total minutes of running - woohoo! A total of a 1/4 mile-ish. Hey, I'll take it. Loggin' the miles...or fractions thereof :)

Still also working the PT stuff 3X per day - my calf is SO sore. It is crazy sore, I didn't realize how much I didn't use it, until I did :) Also, the tendons and ligaments on the bottom of my feet are feeling this new walking stuff too. I know it is NOT fracture point pain, I know what that feels like. This is just my body getting back to normal. This is how I know I'm not ready to jump up and run off on a nice easy 6 mile loop. Easy does it, easy does it.

Patience = the new endurance sport!

Your PT exercises scare me a little bit! if your calf gets too tight, that darn achilles might BLOW! Be careful.

Devine Miss M - hum, hum, hum, I know, I am not your dad, brother -but, let the rehab work, don't be tempted, let it be, without the beatles, it is a long running year, you have time, so what if your Ogden time is a bit slower than last year. Running is a life long challenge. Nothing to be gained right now, much to lose. Your natural talent with be there when you return.

Also, I was worried about the same thing Kelli mentioned. Uphill is the hardest on the achilles (as you know, that is when it is in its lengthened position). PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful!!

How are you feeling now? Please tell me that there is no pain!!!

Kelli, the nice thing is my achillies is SO loose right now it is crazy! I can even put my heel on the ground when I do downward dog! :)

bye-wing, maybe just "I AM crazy!" my blinker is on...preparing to merge.

Brent, please don't worry, I feel like I'm being very good about following DR's orders. He said no worries about sending me running at 6%, just muscle weakness. So a 1:10 ratio is a good place to start I think. I will NOT push past any pain, I'd rather take a few extra days/weeks now than months later. That is a hard lesson I've learned one too many times.

Teena, today is GREAT! I feel better today than yesterday, so I'm fairly confident I'm doing the right stuff and not being too aggressive. Okay, as far as my calf is concerned, don't worry. I really have a TON of flexibility still in it and I'm keeping the flexibility by stretching like a mad woman. It is just that SO much of it has been lost that the smallest things (like my 2 foot heel raises) make me sore. Luckily, that soreness is 95% gone today. Again, makes me feel like I'm doing right. I would happily take any suggestions though :)
