After I ran the Boston Marathon I wasn't happy with the time I got. I didn't have a Boston qualifying time in Boston. (3:48) I felt like I needed to run one more to prove to myself I can run a fast marathon. I signed up for St George and sort of hoped I wouldn't get it. Well as luck would have it, EVERYONE that registered got in. :)
I trained using a Hal Higdon marathon plan. 2 days a week I went to the gym and did speed work/tempo runs. The other days I ran outside.
I didn't go to bed as early as I would have liked on Friday, but I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Woke up at 3:30 am and ate a bagle and banana. Got on a bus at 4:15 and hung out at the top.
Ran the first two miles with the 3:05 pacer. Felt like a good warm up pace. I found Adam Hall and ran with him until mile 5. Tyler S found us around mile 4.5.
Mile 1 - 7:03
Mile 2 - 7:06
Mile 3 - 6:45 - grabbed a water - tried to drink lots of water through out. The temps weren't too hot, but they weren't cool either. I tried to walk through the water stops. I also would dump one cup on my head and drink another cup.
Mile 4 - 6:46
Mile 5 - 6:52 - Took a gu/bathroom break.
Mile 6 - 7:04
Mile 7 - 6:28
Mile 8 - 7:40 - Veyo
Mile 9 - 7:27
Mile 10 - 7:31
Mile 11 - 7:40
Mile 12 - 8:37 Gu/bathroom break/Icy Hot
Mile 13 - 7:06
Mile 14 - 7:08
Mile 15 - 6:41
Mile - 16 - 6:41
Mile 17 - 6:52
Mile 18 - 7:15
Mile 19 - 7:42 - Icy hot/gu
Mile 20 - 7:28
Mile 21 - 6:49
Mile 22 - 7:29
Mile 23 - 7:29
Mile 24 - 7:27
Mile 25 - 8:24 - THE HARDEST MILE! I could not do anything but think over and over, "you can slow down, just don't stop." I drank a diet coke here. Some great guy had little bottles so I snagged one. :)
Mile 26 - 7:40 - Feet were killing but I knew I was close so I picked it up a little. Started the whole when your legs stop working run with your ams, when your arms stop working run with your heart.
Mile .2 - 7:02 - Saw my little boy carson and my sister and her family! Ran and gave them high fives and ran across the finish.
Race felt much better than Boston!!! I PR'd so that was also awesome! I really like Hal Higdon's training plans. I know I could have worked harder and trained better, but I did my best for the marathon.
