I went to Runner's Corner yesterday and with Hawk's help tried a bunch of shoes, including some zero drop shoes. I went in with the intent to buy another pair of Saucony Guides or Mizuno Wave Riders. They both felt good, but to my surprise the shoes that felt the best were the Altra Instinct zero drop shoes, so that's what I bought. I know it takes some time to adjust to zero drop shoes. I went out this morning and ran one easy mile (2 laps around the block) at 9:35 pace. They felt good. I felt like running faster but didn't want to overdo it. I did some light stretching of my calves and Achilles then ran a second mile. I allowed myself to run a little faster and ran 8:41 pace with ease. My first impression if very positive. The shoes felts great. I had to resist the urge to run hard and fast. I'm hopeful they might help me get to the point where I can. With all the injuries over the last few years, I really look forward to being able to run long and hard again.
