Near the end of leg #17 while running in the very dark desert I looked over at the sign and flashing light at the one mile to go mark. I read 3 or 4 words before I found myself hitting the gravel road. I must have stepped on a rock or mound of grass. I rolled my right ankle and scraped up my right shin and the palm of my right hand pretty bad. I walked briefly and then ran in the last mile. I had been holding off a younger female runner for a while, but with the fall she passed me, asking if I was okay. I finished pretty strong. I doctored up the scrapes pretty well and they didn't really bother me, but my ankle sprain stiffened before leg three so I was unable to run my last leg.

| I was scheduled to run leg #29, but after my fall on my second leg I didn't feel like my ankle was up to it. Kevin added Joe's leg on to his own then Joe ran my leg. It's nice to have good friends to pick up our slack when we fall short. | Add Comment |
