Came within about 6" of stepping on the happy and very alive owner of these nice little rattles this morning while running!

I Stopped and hit him with a rock and that's when he came at me with his fangs snapping. I picked up a stick and let him have it... then accepted my prize. :-)

Well, it doesn't look like I'm going to make it to the BCS marathon this weekend. I'm afraid the weather is going to be too cold and rainy. I'm a little disappointed since I've been training since early July to run a marathon. I felt like I might really be ready to set the bar much higher with a really fast PR. The good thing is that I've gone through all of this training without any health issues so hopefully I can jump into my Boston training with a very good base.

Today's run was .... well, just a run.

Yikes! Glad you saw him in time!

Wow, nice kill! I think I might've turned around and run the other way!

Too bad about BCS. I know what you mean though - being wet at that temperature is asking for trouble.

From Matt Schreiber on Wed, Dec 04, 2013 at 21:24:46 from 66.17.102.185

No way I would've killed that thing without a shotgun. Nice work!

From JG on Thu, Dec 05, 2013 at 08:44:10 from 99.141.151.28

Nice Prize! I definitely would not have entered that battle just equipped with a rock & a stick! Wise choice on BCS, you don't have to run a marathon to benefit from marathon training, you should be primed to launch a great training cycle for Boston ... you will get your running prize there. Oh, and not to be a jerk or anything, but I do not accept logging 8:00 miles from you as marathon pace miles! :)

From I Just Run on Thu, Dec 05, 2013 at 10:55:07 from 67.79.11.242

Ha ha .... I have to address JG's comment first. :-) No offense taken and I definitely don't think you're a "jerk". You're right that 8:00 pace shouldn't be my MP but I used that time since it does squeak me into a 3:30 marathon (which is my BQ time). Currently I guess MP is 7:45 but as you know I really want it to be more like a 7:15.

I actually saw him after I had run past. I can't imagine what would have happened if I would have actually stepped on it.

I'm thinking about making a necklace out of the thing and wearing it in my next marathon for good luck!

Ha! You'll be like "The Slider" on Seinfeld. That guy Elaine gave a box of Tic-Tacs to, because he was always sneaking up on her at work!

1,904 miles! Go, man, go!

From flatlander on Fri, Dec 06, 2013 at 08:20:13 from 76.31.9.237

You probably saw him because it was just cool enough he couldn't get away in time. Nice action plan and super trophy.

Come run Kingwood with me on New Years Day? It's full but I have seen walkups get in before, just by showing up the morning of with their money. If my flu lasts any longer you can have my entry, I could use a nice PR.

From derhammer on Sat, Dec 07, 2013 at 10:32:36 from 162.197.31.29

I think I would have kept on running! You will need to make a necklace out of that and wear it at your next marathon.

They cancelled the Dallas Marathon that was going to take place this Sunday - no refunds!
