NEW ENTRY:

Well, below I stated this was a "Recovery Day" but in the evening I went out to run a little extra and decided to run my Loop (6.65 miles). Everything was feeling good so I went ahead and pushed it a little trying to increase my speed each mile. I did pretty well except on one section (mile 4) where the hill slowed me down a little. All in all the run was good, my knee didin't hurt at all! (but since I'm entering this after my Friday run I can tell you now it hurt again on Friday) Here's the Chart for the Friday evening run:

5/13/2011
Mile Time HR HR %
1 8:14:00 135 68% Ran the Loop
2 8:13:00 148 76%
3 7:38:00 149 77%
4 7:44:00 159 84%
5 7:30:00 162 86%
6 7:14:00 165 88%
6.65 4:48:00 168 90%
Total 51:21:00 155 81%
Pace 7:43:18 60º 53% Humidity

ORIGINAL ENTRY:

Recover Day ... Since I went over to the DARK side yesterday (see yesterday's new entry for biking details) I decided to take it easy this morning. I tried to run at a 140 bpm heart rate which is 70% of my max heart rate so it should be a recover level. It was raining this morning, if you could call it that. I think the ran actually evaporated before it hit the ground but it was enough to get me soaked. I may run a few more miles this evening too.

5/12/2011
Mile Time HR HR % 2 Miles Out and Back
1 8:13:00 136 68%
2 9:01:00 141 72%
3 9:06:00 141 72%
4 9:28:00 143 73%
Total 35:48:00 140 71%
Pace 8:57:00 75 Deg. Raining
Goal was 140 HR / 70% Max Heart Rate

Nice run and bike ride yesterday. So what is supposed to happen with this bone spur of yours? Is it going to eventually breakdown? How long is that going to take?

From I Just Run on Thu, May 12, 2011 at 11:06:59 from 67.79.11.242

Ahhhh...the doctor said it would desolve itself and it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks. It's been 6 weeks today (seems like 6 months) though. Overall it seems to be getting better but every once in a while (running or doing nothing) it will get really painful. Yesterday in my slow run I got sharp pains that almost buckled my knee a few times. Last night on the bike ride it didn't hurt at all. If it's not completly better in a couple of weeks I'm going back and see if they can pluck the thing out!

From SlowJoe on Thu, May 12, 2011 at 11:38:50 from 131.59.200.82

What, you didn't get enough rain running in at OKC?

Nice biking too, one of these days I'll get one. I outgrew my last bike when I turned 12...it's been awhile.

From I Just Run on Thu, May 12, 2011 at 12:00:59 from 67.79.11.242

I just don't know about the bike thing...I kinda feel like I'm committing adultery or something with my running ;(

From derhammer on Thu, May 12, 2011 at 12:12:50 from 192.156.110.34

Nah - just think of it as "cross training" - now if this becomes a daily thing you'll have us worried!

From I Just Run on Thu, May 12, 2011 at 12:20:50 from 67.79.11.242

Well...all the biker guys just came to my office and said they were going to come to my house every Wednsday to ride... Uh..ho I've got to start thinking up excuses :-)

From derhammer on Thu, May 12, 2011 at 12:22:19 from 192.156.110.34

Oh well, once a week ain't bad, actually it's probably good for you. Run in the am and go bike in the evening.

Just don't get talked into any races - that would be going too far. :-)

From JG on Thu, May 12, 2011 at 12:36:58 from 74.176.226.196

Biking at least once a week is great, you can get a good aerobic workout, but more importantly gives balance to the muscular development of your legs, which can play a critical role in preventing injuries. Running strengthens hamstrings, biking quads ... it pays dividends to develop them both in balance.

I thought the Spurs got eliminated by Memphis last week! :)

From I Just Run on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 10:44:54 from 67.79.11.242

Der Hammer,

No bike racing for me...I have too many other things to keep me busy...

JG,

I could really tell the different muscles I worked on the ride. I thought I would be more sore than I was the next day. My heart rate really stayed low (below 140) for the ride. This is actually in my recovery zone but the actual ride seemed a little harder.

Regarding the !...SPURS...! ...Oh never mind! :-(

From JG on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 15:21:37 from 98.66.189.6

I do not bike much on the roads as there are too many crazy drivers around here, but I do try to get to Spin Class a couple times a week. The instructors are insane, I could never push myself as hard as I do in their classes ... oh & they are pretty easy on the eyes too! lol

I misplaced my hear rate monitor strap about 6 months ago, never wore it very often, but liked to occassionally to gauge where I was at. I wish I had it to wear at Spin sometimes, as I usually feel like I am pretty close to my max at the end of my class. I ran very low milage before my BQ last fall (which was a 20 minute improvement on the same course in much hotter conditions), in large part I contribute that to I was doing Spin 4 times a week. Anyway, needless to say, I have never had any knee issues ... knock on wood!

From derhammer on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 15:33:26 from 192.156.110.40

JG- I am a big fan of spin classes, too. I agree you can get a better workout there than on a bike. It's 60 minutes straight without the breaks or coasting that one gets on a road bike. I agree, too, that the real thing is too dangerous on the roads.

Are you missing the strap for your Garmin? I have an extra one I can send you. In fact, I think I have 3 total. LOL.

From I Just Run on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 15:39:17 from 67.79.11.242

Have you guys ever heard of the word "podunk" ... well, that's were I live. If I start asking around for spin classes I'll probably get arrested!

From JG on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 16:24:30 from 98.66.189.6

IJR - That's hilarious, yeah you might want to keep quiet about that one!

DH - That would be awesome if you had an extra that would work with a 305, I will send you a PM ... thx!

From I Just Run on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 16:39:52 from 166.205.12.82

I believe I should get a comission for all sells on my blog!

From JG on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 16:54:07 from 98.66.189.6

I have no problem with that as long as DH doesn't ... how about 50%? let's see 50% of free is ...

I am guessing the roads are a lot safer in podunk! Enjoy the weekend ... we have crazy cool temps moving into Atlanta for the next 4 days ... hope you get a taste of the same!

From I Just Run on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 17:04:59 from 166.205.12.82

Ok... I think 50% is fair. I feel much better now!

Please send some cool weather....

From derhammer on Sat, May 14, 2011 at 11:54:59 from 71.155.181.174

JG - don't worry about IJR - he is the master at highjacking blogs. LOL!
