Yesterday I went to Core Running Co. and bought new shoes. After trying on about 4 or 5 pair I picked the ones that felt the best (I'm really picky about all my shoes). I also bought some inserts for my high arches. I described the problem I was having to the shoe expert and he believes several things are contributing to my problems.

My Mizunos'  are worn out to the point the heal had dropped and was allowing the shoe to rub on the ankle ball. I believe the shoes were too narrow causing my toes to be pressed together. I shoed him my feet (which have blood blisters on the ends of my toes) and he said this shows that I use my toes like claws when I run putting a lot of pressure on those toes and the tendons that connect to these toes. Those tendons are the ones that are sore on the bottom of my foot and along the top of my foot. (I'm not sure I have all of this exactly right but it sounded sensible when he was describing it). Anyway new shoes, inserts and a little more light running should help me recover soon. On another note, my right knee is much better but still has a little twinge but nothing serious. I think only high milage will tell me how it really is.

Wow...Losts of talk and not much running... :-)

Happy to hear that you have some new shoes. Brooks are known for their roominess in the forefoot. Hopefully they will do the trick. I have never been a fan of Mizunos. I ran a 1/2 in them and my leg/knee got so messed up that I had to miss the Chicago marathon that year. I think I was out for 4-6 weeks. It was the worse injury ever for me. I have not worn any Mizunos since.

I really never got used to the Mizunos. Because they were softer it felt like it was always putting pressure on my ankles. They were worn completly out so in the trash they went :)

New name for you: The Fourth Beast. So perfect for the races you are going to be laying down this year.

Hey Flat...

I know the Bible way too well to take on that name ...! ... Maybe First Beast...! :-)

Which pair of new brooks did you get? I like my Brooks Launch well enough. I had Mizuno wav riders, they were ok for me, but the Mizuno flats I have are great. That being said I preferred my Saucony and Adidas shoes so far. Glad you got to run some.

My Bible knowledge says good choice in avoiding that name :)

Hey Dan,

I got the Launch. I also added arch supports, they seem to be helping. My running store doesn't have a very large selection but I really want to support them. I'll probably try a few different types before I settle in on the one I like best.

I've decided NO for the new name... Sorry Flat.
