Personal:

Have been active my whole life, but turned my focus to running in 2006 after deciding to run a marathon.  I really enjoy the training aspect and staying healthy, but mileage has been on the decline over the past 3 years due to work commitments, so focus has turned away from races and more on just staying fit enough to still enjoy getting out.  Moved from Utah to Texas in October 2016 with my wife and 3 month old babe.

AM

Pretty solid workout this morning.  Ran to 189 for a warm-up, did some drills, then 8 x 800m on the way back to the house.  I wanted to keep the pace a little slower than last Wednesday since I was doubling the number of reps and still feelin Saturday just a bit.  Kept the pace around the 5:40 range and it felt decently comfortable, so I'm stoked on that.: )

3 mile warm-up,

1 set of butt-kicks, high-knee skipping, carioca, w/ a stride between each.

8  x 800m w/ 2:30 jog rest.  Splits were: 2:50, 2:49, 2:49, 2:49, 2:51, 2:50, 2:52(lazy start, picked it up at .25), 2:46,

1.79 cool-down

Total of 11.08 miles

also, 2:50 at TOU -- do you have any interest in running together? there was a good-sized group that i ran with last year going 2:50 pace and it was super helpful to run with them and have the company. especially miles 17-20.

Thanks Allie! I'm feelin pretty awesome. I'm kinda nervous about not doing more MP tempos, but hopefully it will all come together next weekend.

You seem to be back on track. Are you feelin ready?

Yeah, I'm down! How was your first half split compared to your 2nd last year? It looks like it may be a good idea to try for a decently fast first half, then ride out the second half.

From allie on Tue, Sep 06, 2011 at 19:53:40 from 161.38.218.168

last year i was 1:24:20 for the first half and 1:26:51 for the second half. it was a pretty even effort all the way through. that second half is tough. this year i am hoping to be 1:23:59 at the half. i know that's a silly number, but that's the goal. ideally the second half will be 1:25:01 or slightly faster, but i'm not entirely confident in my ability to do that. this would give a 2:49 finish. i'm going to go for that, and see what happens :)

I was hoping the first half would carry me thru at about 1:20-ish, but I think feelin fresher for those later miles is the key. Let's start out together and go from there, cool? Are you running with anyone else?

not that i know of -- not sure who will be in the race at this point. you can drop me at any time :)

Haha, it may be the other way around. I'm not totally sure what to expect and you've got the upper hand when it comes to experience. Either way this will be an awesome experience. Good luck with the rest of your training!
