Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

AM - 8 very easy miles. Ran out past Mack Park and then to Forrester Acres and back on the paved trail. Still very icy around Forrester (I took a big digger on that ice last week, forgot to mention it). Then came back up Summit to Hillside, and then went south a little ways on the canal trail. The paved part is fine, of course, and the dirt section I was on was clear of snow, although it was mud frozen over, so rather poor footing. But we are getting closer to running on dirt again.

PM - 4 miles with Seth, Summit-Cemetery Loop. 7:45/mile pace.

Awesome evening to run, and it's great to be in shorts and a t-shirt. I run-mmuted home from work. Tried to tempo for most of the way. The last 3.5 miles were on the canal trail, which was about 80% good, with patches of snow or mud. Not much snow actually, but the mud slowed me down in places. But it was nice to run on again. Felt good, and averaged 6:22/mile for the run.

Ran 8 miles easy with Carson. We ran up Summit Dr, Hillside, and then ran up Dry Canyon Rd until it got too snowy (almost up to single track). Then ran on canal trail for a little while and headed home. About an hour later, I took Seth out, and we did 4 miles (Cemetery Loops). Average pace was all over 8:00/mile.

AM - 4 miles on the canal trail. Wore the NB 790s, and enjoyed it. It was a cold morning, but very clear and beautiful out. The sun was on the Wellsvilles, with dark clouds behind them, and it was very striking, great view. 6:42/mile average.

AM.2 - ran down to the bus stop from my house. Missed the bus, so then Stacy had to take me to work.

PM - Run-mmuted home from work, 8.25 miles. It was kind of nasty - snowing with a head-wind - and I was unprepared for it, wearing shorts. But then when I went from Logan into North Logan, it all mysteriously stopped, the sun came out, and wind died. I looked back into Logan, and there was still a black cloud over it. Glad I was going north. I was able to enjoy the second half of the run, and kept an honest pace the whole way. Averaged 6:29/mile for the run.

Did a harder, longer run today, and it was gloriously nice out, so I enjoyed every minute of it. Ran from my house to Saddleback Rd and out west of Smithfield, and then headed north on the county roads up toward Richmond. Lots of dirt roads out there, which is nice, and I have great, clear views of Cache Valley in every direction. Felt good the whole way. Splits were:

6:04, 6:13, 5:48, 5:46, 5:43, 5:50, 5:42, 5:52, 5:49, 5:51, 5:43, 5:50, 5:56, 5:54, 6:02, 6:50. If I throw out my first two miles, which was warmup, and my last mile, which was all uphill, then I averaged 5:46/mile for the gut of the run. With the slow miles, it was a 5:55/mile average. Definitely a good run, and I think my body has adjusted to the mileage increase and wants to run hard again. I still get some soreness in my achilles, so I continue to work on it (lot of stretching, calf raises, ultrasound). Hopefully it will hold up, and continue to not inhibit my stride. It really doesn't hurt at all while running, just some soreness when I massage on it.
