Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Ran from my house to Green Canyon via the canal trail. Went up Green Canyon a ways, very beautiful and bright colors today. Averaged 6:29/mile for 16 miles.

You are running some fast chilled out runs, I can tell you are in excellent shape!

Nice run Paul - how do those runs feel for you? Are they on the fast end of easy or do feel like you're just floating along?

From Paul on Sat, Oct 15, 2011 at 22:16:37 from 24.10.141.104

They are the fast end of easy. They always feel pretty good. It's easy to feel good and run a good clip at this kind of mileage, and on singles. But once the mileage goes up and I add doubles, the pace really slows quite a bit. But I like this "all moderate" approach early in a training cycle.

Thanks for sharing Paul! Thats stuff we can't get out of a book and a great reason I love this blog.

So you're about 3 months from the trials now... just curious about how long out you plan to start the "structured" training, ie. harder workouts, etc.

I'm obviously a rookie at this, but I have this sense that a 12 week big cycle is almost too much... I kinda like breaking it into a couple smaller (like 4-5 week) cycles... or maybe just like a straight 7-8 week big cycle.

From Paul on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 11:46:01 from 24.10.141.104

will try to start higher volume and marathon-specific workouts by the 1st of Nov. That will give me about a 9-week cycle, and then a 2-week taper. I agree, 12 weeks can be a bit grueling if you don't break it up. I've been messing around since Boston, not too serious, so I think I'm fresh enough to handle a 9-week block. Don't plan on any big races either, so I'll probably pick a "down" week somewhere in the middle, but will be focusing mostly on volume and marathon-pace tempos.
