Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Long night last night. Stacy had about 10 hours of light to moderate labor, which eventually petered out, so a lot of work for no results. Fortunately we stayed home, so she was comfortable. We played Yatzee to pass the time.

I was kind of a zombie this morning, but took Seth out in the stroller up Smithfield Canyon. Ran 8 miles, averaged 7:31/mile. It was a beautiful morning, and invigorating to get some cool, fresh air.

Oh the joys of pre-labor. You are wise to stay home as long as possible. Heck, why not stay home for the birth too and have the midwife come to you? Now we're talking. (I'm being serious...I stayed home with #2 and #3 and it was MUCH more comfortable than the hospital).

Good luck with the impending labor and birth!

I like the idea of home-birth, but Stacy doesn't. I've been pretty suspicious of hospitals ever since watching "The Business of Being Born", and of course reading all the Bradley Method books. Our hospital here is pretty good actually, but they still facilitate very few natural births.

My wife isn't so big on hospitals either, though if they'll let her do it her way and be there just in case, it works pretty well. She has done hypno-birthing for our last 2, which has been a god-send, but some nurses just think they have to do whatever they've always done, like babies aren't born in nature almost every second of the day without nurses.

From Paul on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 12:52:00 from 65.103.252.214

Yes, they (the nurses) definitely have their own system, and like to do it their way. Not to say they're bad or anything, but that's just how it is. Protocol.

From Nan on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 13:11:42 from 24.8.144.22

Yeah protocol is annoying. That movie was interesting, huh? I decided to do home birth after a very low risk, natural hospital birth with #1 and lot of research and prayer going into my second pregnancy. Its not for everyone, but it sure was great for us! If you are there as a support your wife and if you communicate very clearly with the Dr and nurses to help your wife have the labor and birth experience she wants, everything should be fine. Good luck!

We were able to do a natural birth with Seth in the hospital, and have the same doctor for this one, so I think they all know our expectations. I think we're done with kids after this one, so I'll probably never get to try the home birth.
