Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

I'm getting Lasik surgery this afternoon, so no running the rest of the week, as I recover. So I did my long run this morning. 19.75 miles, ran out to the Logan River trail, up to the start of the single-track, and back. Beautiful day, but the last 3 miles was a death-march. I really needed that run though.6:37/mile average pace.

Oh come on, now. You don't need eyes to run. haha. ;) just kidding. Good luck.

Good luck with the surgery. Mik'L has been wanting that for a while now. You'll have to tell us the in's and out's and how it goes.

Yeah, no vigorous exercise allowed. They actually said no running for one week, but I talked them down to 3 days when I explained that running is easier than walking for me. But no Health Days 5K this Saturday. :-(

Clyde - it's pretty easy. Between doing a 20-miler right before, followed by a Valium, I was fairly relaxed at least. It's a pretty crazy procedure, but it takes about 20 minutes total, and you walk out with 20-20 vision. Minor discomfort. I would rate it a little more uncomfortable than a vasectomy, but better than going to the dentist. My vision has been getting better over the last few hours, and not much pain or discomfort at this point. The key is a long nap right afterward. I'm hoping for 10-15 years of perfect vision before I go farsighted and need reading glasses.

Glad it went well.

CAN YOU READ THIS OK? THAT'S AN INTERESTING PAIN COMPARISON..... ARE YOU STILL COMING DOWN TO MACK PARK TO CHEER US ON? ARE YOU PREREGISTERED? IS MY LARGE TYPE GIVING YOU A HEADACHE?

From Paul on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 08:47:47 from 24.10.141.104

Scott - I might come down to Mack enroute to the pancake breakfast. Unfortunately I did preregister for the 5K, but I am only out $10, and I used money I won at Striders anyway. If you have not registered, perhaps you can take my number and run as me.

From Scott Ensign on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 09:39:04 from 63.226.92.167

Paul, I am preregistered, but was actually thinking that maybe Joe would want to use your number since he is not registered. I am sure they would do a transfer, they are pretty nice at this race. I'll post on his blog and tell him to contact you if this might be possible and if he is interested. thanks!

From Paul on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 09:47:22 from 24.10.141.104

That would be good. I'd hate for my number to go to waste. I actually feel fine to run this morning (and obviously my eyes are good enough to mess around on the internet)...but dr's orders...can't afford to take an elbow to the eye from an overzealous runner at the start.

From Scott Ensign on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 09:50:15 from 63.226.92.167

thanks Paul, just emailed you and Joe in case he is interested. I've thought about the lasik, but the thought of having my eyes cut into kind of scares me. I look forward to getting your final verdict on how it turned out. Did you do it locally or in SLC? I'll have to get the details including cost next time I see you.

From Paul on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 10:10:29 from 24.10.141.104

I did it here in Logan. It's pricey, but affordable.
