Big Workout, although not very structured.  It was hotter than I expected this morning, so I ran up Smithfield Canyon to stay in the shade. Averaged about 6:40/mile on the uphill part. Then turned around and did about 5 miles at MP effort, and averaged about 5:30/mile. Legs probably still have some residual fatigue from Saturday, so sometimes you just have to go through the motions and not worry about the splits. Averaged 6:25/mile for 15 miles. And my Saucony Kinvara's turned over 800 miles today. My goal is to get to 1000, which I should do pretty easily. The thing about minimalist shoes, is that by definition, they should not wear out!

I've been wearing the Kinvaras for a while now, and was just thinking about the fact that I should be able to get 1000 miles out of them, maybe more since I'm rotating pairs. Its good to know that I'm not the only one who believes in that "400-500" miles rule. Not that I could afford to turn over shoes that quickly anyways!

Good workout... I'm just running easy miles this week b/c I know there is still some fatigue there from Saturday.

The only wear my Kinvara's are showing are in the fabric immediately adjacent (to the side) of the ball of my foot. Light crack there in the plastic/rubber stuff. But the bottoms are wearing just fine. It helps that I only wear them about twice/week, and that I weight under 130 lbs!

That said, I don't expect more than 300-400 from my Saucony Hattori's. They are true minimalist, nothing to them, and I just don't see how they can hold up to much.

Would you run the Saucony Kinvara in a Half Marathon. I have a pair and thought that's probably a good distance for them.

No, I would not do any race in them. Although they are very light, they are not "fast" because they are so soft and squishy. I like something stiffer for racing, and with a bit of a heel lift. (Kinvara's have negative lift)

Kory - I agree w/ Paul... but I see your line of thinking. I've done some workouts in the Kinvaras and toyed around with the idea of wearing them in a downhill race, but ultimately I'd rather let my feet burn a little more and race in a stiffer, faster shoe.

Ya I agree I have a pair and the spongy feeling doesn't give the bounce. I'm running my first half marathon this weekend since my accident a year ago and I can't decide to run in my Ohana Racers 8.5 oz or my Mizuno Idaten 7.0 oz. I don't think either will affect my titanium rod leg, but I was just thinking about the spongy feel of the Kinvara's on how well they would work. Lighter is usually the better for shorter race.

Kory - for first race back, I'd go with a standard trainer. It's not just about the injury/accident, but racing will be a shock to your achilles and calves. Best to give yourself some padding and support.

Thinks Paul that's why I asked. I'm so nervous and excited "like a kid in a candy

store". It's hard to imagine doing my last Half Marathon at 1:14 and realizing that 1:40 might be doable. But give God the Glory I can run again.
