Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Ran the dog around the block. Later in the morning, did my real run. I ran to work and back to start a software installation, and then did the same slow tempo I did last week on the Young Ward-ICON Loop. Pace was pretty much the same too, 5:57/mile for 11 miles. Everything felt good, and like I could have held that pace for quite a while without straining. Mile splits were 6:05, 6:02, 6:01, 6:01, 5:57, 5:54, 5:53, 5:53, 5:44, 6:07 (slowed down on Planet Walk), 5:52.

NW Briefs | Paul Tergat highlights field for inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon Five-time world champion Paul Tergat is set to conquer the roads of the Pacific Northwest at the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon... Five-time world champion Paul Tergat is set to conquer the roads of the Pacific Northwest at the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon on Saturday, June 27. Tergat, 39, is universally regarded as one of the most accomplished long-distance runners in history and will compete in the half marathon 10 days after his 40th birthday. Tergat, two-time Olympic silver medalist, recently won the Lake Biwa Marathon in Japan with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes, 22 seconds. He held the world record in the marathon from 2003 to 2007, as the first runner in history to break 2:05 with a time of 2:04:55.

Okay, so the question is whether I should try to bury Tergat early on in the race, or just sit and kick?

I think you could probably hold that pace your whole life and not be the wiser - while the rest of us just dropped off like flies!

You can't just leave a software installation with monitoring it. It's like leaving an open container of chili in the microwave!

I know. I don't know what I'm talking about.

Dave - I love 6:00/mile pace. There is something magical about it.

Burt - that reminds me, I left the refrigerator door open.

If you go out fast, you'll be written off like the high school kids at the start of a 5k. But if you sit and kick, you'll be more famous. So beat him in a photo finish!

Stand right next to him when you line up at the start. About 30 seconds before the gun goes off, make like you're going to tie your shoes. Reach over and tie his laces together. That's a strategy that works well for me.
