I woke up today feeling very unmotivated. This seems to be an increasing trend. I fed my unmotivation by sleeping in and skipping the gym. I ended up having some free time after work, though, and ran the Planet Walk, very easy. Left hip and SI are hurting.

I'm feeling very unmotivated right now, and you as my runing mentor and hero are supposed to be a bastion of optimism to cheer me up. Any advice on what I should do next, coach?

My tips: count down the days until March. Brighter days and cleaner air always bring about recharge. Until then, just put down your head and get in the mileage. Don't worry about missing a hard workout, but just make sure you get in some sort of run.

OK, thanks, I am a little discouraged I haven't pushed my mileage over 60 a week yet, I have been running about 55 the last three weeks. I will try to go over 60 this week. Listening to my joints, muscles, etc, and trying to ease the mileage forward without hurting myself...did get a 16 miler in last week and a 12 today. How does 17 miles sound for my long run this week? And I will take your advice and skip a hard workout, maybe do one not too hard tempo run, on Wednesday.

It's still so early, mileage is just gravy at this point. If I were you, I'd stick at 16 miles for a long run until nicer weather comes around and your motivation increases. You have 4 months still to get in the long runs, so you are just building base right now. Do hard workouts when you feel up to it; don't force anything. If you get two in a week great, but one will be good too.
