Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

AM - had scheduled an interval workout for yesterday, but pushed back to today because of my sore calf. The calf is still sore, so I just bagged it and did a tinman tempo instead (don't have to get up on toes at tinman pace, so less strain on calves). It's probably for the better, so I'll get a V02Max effort at the race Saturday, so I tempo makes a little more sense anyway. Ran up Smithfield Canyon. 6:30s on the way up, 5:45s on the way down. Averaged about 6:15/mile for the whole run.

PM - ran home from work. 9 miles, averaged 7:01/mile. Feels like my calf is improving.

sorry about the calves. I am having similar problems. frustrating part is not knowing if it is cramp, strain, pulled, torn, or at what level. Sara helped a lot when I really strained it, she brought all the swelling down.

So who do you run with and against on Saturday? the college runners, or is there another race for the non-students? My son has a tennis invite at Logan high all day- maybe I will come over and watch some of the action during his breaks, I would like to watch Ruth race too. what time is your race? Scott

It's the USU invitational.

I didn't know you were going to come run at our home meet! That's awesome! Come give Brian McKenna a run for his money. :) I'll see you on Saturday!

It will be fun. But I have no speed right now!

Paul, good luck on your race Saturday. But i have a question for you? Are you really retiring from running November 21?

From Paul on Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 14:34:33 from 65.103.252.214

Barry - sure. But if I qualify for Trials, I'll have to briefly come out of retirement to run the race.

Preparing your body and knowing when to push and when not is a smart move. Taking care of the sore calf is more important. But you've had consistent training leading up to this event (except for being sick) so your fitness level, peak level I'm assuming is close to where you want it?

Paul your going to rock the track and do well. Sorry I haven't responded in a while. My life has been about work and just running for fitness.

Thanks Kory. I feel fit, so hope to have a good one on Saturday.
