Riverton Half Marathon, sunny, temps upper 50's to upper 60's.
Very warm start for a race for a March race. The wind was blowing just enough to get the flags to go straight. Much more wind than I prefer for a race.
It was nice to see some of the bloggers at the starting line (Walter, Chad, James......). This race has really grown in the last few years. Good job Riverton!
Walter took of like lighting and easily won the race. I tucked in behind James for the first 4 miles then he let me pass him. The first two miles the wind was at our backs (very nice to start the race like that). From miles 3-9 most of those miles were into the wind. Then the last 3 are mostly with the wind. I was doing great except that with about 3 miles to go my left quad did a little cramp grab and it scared me. I slowed down and ran a 7:01 mile to be careful. With a mile left the first place women caught me as I stopped to drink at the aid station. I decided it was time to crank out a fast last mile and not get chicked, hoping the leg wouldn't cramp. When I was done I was very tired but pleased with my time and effort.
