Noon run, light rain, temp 65'

I ran the UT marathon relay route.  The first 2-3 miles my legs were complaining.  Running two days in a row got my legs a little stiff.  But the second half of the run started to feel much better.  I went from old man to young man running.

Time 38:00,  Mile avg. - 7:19

Taunia, thanks for baking brown homade bread.  It sure was good for lunch with peanut butter & honey.  Kinda like eating healthy cake.

As I was jogging today I was wondering what Tom, Paul, & Cal would get at SG.

I'm predicting Tom to get a 2:58 and somehow not be over joyed because he's thinking low 2:50's.

Paul to go 3:05, having the heart to go lower but maybe not the legs to respond.

Cal to go 3:14. To many injuries during the summer to let him dream of the sub 3.

I'm hope I'm wrong on all accounts and that you all do better than my predications.

How about a prediction for me? A real one, not just one to make me feel good. Pretend I'm one of the guys here! You are always good and honest with them!

From Tom on Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 17:47:37

Terry I promise to be a happy camper if my time is anything with a 2 in the front. But I reserve the right to be bummed out even if I get a huge PR but run 3:00:00.

I'd be curious as well to see what you think Kim will do. (Not what she CAN do, but what you think she WILL do). I have a number in mind but I'll keep that to myself until I hear what you think. And like Kim said, no mister nice guy here, tell it like it is.

Terry, I'm way disappointed! (Just kidding.)

I think a sub-3 probably is a bit ambitious for me given the last couple of months. But I think i'm making positive strides here in the final weeks and I'm predicting that I'll be within 3 minutes of it.

There's been some discussion on this topic today at http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=655

Everybody there says for me to go for sub-3:00, and I plan to because I have nothing to lose, but I know it's a long shot. Most of them know that, too. Your prediction of 3:05 (or slower) is much more likely, and I'd be very satisfied with it, but where's the excitement in shooting for 3:05? :)

No risk, no reward. To find your limits you have to risk exceeding them. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

More than my fear of bonking at the end, I fear finishing feeling good in 3:0x and wondering what might have been if I'd had the guts to go for it.

Either way, it'll be an interesting adventure to discover what race day will bring, and what my mind and heart can pull out of my body under whatever the race conditions might be.

BTW, I ran with Cal for much of the SF half. He's running well. I agree that sub-3:00 is a stretch for him, too, but isn't a prediction of 3:14 a little harsh? Maybe it'll give him a little extra incentive to prove you wrong. :)

We're all still waiting for your prediction for Kim.

From Kim on Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 21:31:48

Yah, we are! Mister Prediction Man!

From Terry on Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 13:50:21

Sorry, I'm late with Kim's prediction. I get to busy with life. Anyway, Kim is the hardest one to predict. I'm going with a 3:52. The hardest part about predicting Kim's time is the last half of the marathon. I think if Kim's body holds up and she starts off at an easy pace and is able to eat enough during the run to keep her thin figure going then I can see her beating the time easy. I can also for the opposite resonses see Kim hitting the wall.

Good luck Kim!

From Kim on Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 13:56:24

Gee thanks! I did say 'treat me like the guys' didn't I? You are just trying to bring out the fire in me though! 3:52 is just out of reach for BQ for me. If I'm going to get a 3:52 I might as well get 4:00!

I guess we'll see what Oct. 4 brings! You better be watching the race reports! However, I'm not quite sure how fast I will get to the blogging...I think nap will probably win on my list of things to do.
