Thoughts:
- The temperature was pleasant, mid-50's. It rained for the final 5 miles, but I was already wet from sweat so it was a non issue.
- My mental health really needed this workout. State testing has begun. I am not sure why six and seven year olds require state testing, but here I am standarize testing them for the third time this year.
- I do my best to keep it light and low key. But, their little legs shake. Their hands flutter in the air as they try to read that next difficult word or passage. Their eyes plead for respite. It breaks my heart. Education is a mess in the United States. It doesn't need to be this way, but as long as we have politicians leading the charge there is little hope for real, impactful change.
- Over the past three years, I have heavily researched the educational reforms in the Scandinavian countries. I've adopted many of their educational philosophies of outdoor learning, collaboration through STEAM lessons, principles of self-regulation, and the creation of an environment of community. I know that my learners experience a great year of learning. It's a small start to perhaps a bigger change.
