I read your post about your broken fibula. It seems so crazy that your pain progressed so quickly and you ended up breaking a bone. My senior year in high school I got stress fractures in both legs. I thought they were shin splints and so did the Physical Therapist that massaged my legs. I finally got a bone scan and then had to stop running for 6 weeks. I had the shin splint pain for a few months though. Ever since then I try to avoid running on paved roads or sidewalks but that is impossible to do all the time. I have shin splint pain again now but the bone scan came back negative. From my experience shoes and running surface play a big role along with increased mileage. When you are able to run again you'll have to increase your mileage very very slowly and not run every day. Good luck with the healing. Maybe you could do some swimming in the meantime if you had a water cast of some sort.

Thanks nic. Where were your stress fractures at? It's so weird to have broken the bone by my ankle if its related but I was complaining about shin pain in that leg on the blog as far back as March 2.
