I'm still alive, but it's been awhile. Seven slightly laborious miles on Beach Drive with Henry, on a Seattle Summer morning (that is, it's raining pretty steadily). Nice to be back, but it's going to be rough until I get some fitness built up. 52 minutes or so, I didn't stop my watch during two bathroom breaks and a brief walk.

For those of you wondering why I haven't been running, I have been in Kenya. I only saw two runners the whole time, but they do love their marathoners. One of our drivers even had a son who's an 800 specialist for a national training team.

Here's a blog with stories, if you're interested: www.nelsonsgotorusinga.blogspot.com

Oof, I'm slow these days. Evening run around Manette, Shore Drive, etc. 23:00

Afternoon run with Krissy over at Discovery Park, we hadn't run together in awhile so we caught up. She was planning a VO2 max test the next day and I'm woefully out of shape (though I felt better than Saturday), so it wasn't fast. Even walked in the last few blocks. 1:06:00

Finally, a sunny morning. Back on the Warren-Manette bridge loop. The old Manette Bridge will be open to car traffic for two more days, and then it closes until the new one opens in November. At some point I'm sure they'll cut off pedestrian traffic, but very soon that old boy will be all ours, runners, walkers and bicyclists!

Felt pretty sluggish again, still regaining some fitness. I'm really stiff too, stopping at 20 minutes to stretch was perfect. 40:00

Evening run from work over to Lions Park and back. Warm evening. Maybe it's because I was going from work, or just coming at the end of a big weekend, but I was really sluggish. I hope it's not a sign from the running gods, but I lost my watch also.

In Wichita, Kansas for the Junior Olympics track meet with two of the kids I coach. It was a very lovely 107 on Thursday, and probably 85 and steamy when I ran at 6:30 a.m. Three miles was enough to get a good sweat going, and any more may have melted me as I sat in the sun the rest of the day.

Another hot, hot, hot run in Kansas, and this time I was wise enough to wait until 9, when the concrete really started baking.
