Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

How's recovery going?

From Neil on Fri, Aug 30, 2013 at 11:50:43 from 164.165.24.5

Thanks for the post. Sorry for the delayed response. Not good MarkP. I've sort of shut things down. I have pain on the other side now and a little numbness has returned to my left foot. It's not as bad as before the surgery but still. All that is compounded by the fact that I still haven't totally weaned myself of the painkillers. It's been a struggle. A lost year in essence. I need to get back for another MRI but just can't afford to go through all of that right now. Regards.

Sorry to read about your struggles. I hope you can find a way to get it under control before the year's end. Luckily, I've had no issues. I'm running slower and my gait has changed, but I'm still on track for a decent finish at St. George.

Stay on top of it. Its hard to put a price on your health--get that MRI! Best of luck.

Sorry to hear about the continued struggles. I will keep you in my prayers and hope to hear from you that all is back on track. Start feeling better and get well.

Hi Neil. How are things going this month?

From Neil on Sun, Sep 22, 2013 at 21:55:33 from 65.129.93.213

Thanks for the concern guys. Still in a holding pattern. Like I said, still having issues with pain and numbness and getting off the painkillers. Means a lot that I still have a connection with the blog. Maybe I'll give it another try soon. I used to be a runner and I'd like to think those days aren't over. Regards.
