Did 7X50 stride pick-ups.  Legs feel fully recovered from the Bolder Boulder.

Was looking into races again last night and after talking to some teammates I don't think I'm going to run the race this Saturday.  It takes a good week of effort out of me to recover from an all out 10K and I'd rather just keep training and get ready for something on July 3rd.  And actually after looking again last night, the Freedom Half Marathon in SLC looks very enticing.  The course looks fast and scenic and I'd love to get another fast half under my belt.  It seems like it is an inaugural event though, and I don't love that.  Usually the first year of any race has kinks to be worked out.  Any bloggers doing this race?  Is it in fact the first year of this race?

Nice little run! Sounds like your legs are definitely recovered! So I looked at the Boulder boulder race results and your time was not far off from Magdalena Lewy Boulet. So, I predict you for a sub 2:30 marathon in the future. Since I'm an expert and all. :)

From Steve Piccolo on Mon, Jun 07, 2010 at 19:35:38 from 66.60.122.29

I think this is a new set of races. I thought about doing their Memorial Day half marathon but didn't. One thing is that I don't any race results online for that race, so maybe they're not that organized. But I haven't talked to anyone who ran.

But actually, if you're coming to Utah, you should run the Provo Freedom Run 10K. They usually have fast times, it's fun to run on the parade route, and it's a loop course. I sometimes like to do downhill races but I always feel like I have to put a mental asterisk by the time. Then again I guess it sort of compensates for the altitude.

never heard of this one. sounds like a lot of it is on the DesNews route. definitely fast and scenic.

The Freedom Run 15k in Logan is a good race, but definitely a longer drive.

From Nan on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 11:52:01 from 174.51.250.151

April-Wow, I'm flattered by your prediction. I'd be completely stoked and excited to even see sub 2:40!

Steve-Yeah, I feel bothered by race times on downhill courses too. Surely 1,000 ft of elevation drop in 13.1 miles far overcompensates for the altitude. I guess the only way to really know what your legit ability is to race on a flat sea-level course. I just don't see any good opportunity for me to do that any time in the next 4 months.

Allie-Are you racing on the 3rd?

Jon-Yes, that is the main issue with the race in Logan, just a bit more of a time commitment. I haven't ruled it out yet though.

From Nan on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 11:53:46 from 174.51.250.151

Oh, and Steve, I'll be camping with family Sunday-Wednesday so that rules out a Monday race (Provo Freedom 10K).

From Steve Piccolo on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 11:58:55 from 155.100.160.127

How about the USA 7-mile championships? It's on a Saturday and in Iowa, not super far from Colorado. http://www.usatf.org/events/2010/USA7MileChampionships/ It would just be cool to see what you can do in a national-level race like that, even though that is an unconventional distance.

From Steve Piccolo on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 12:02:29 from 155.100.160.127

Or the USA 20K championship is on Labor Day (Monday) in Connecticut. http://www.usatf.org/events/2010/USA20kmChampionships/

Hey, it can't be any worse organized than that 5k you did in Phoenix. :)

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 13:15:37 from 68.103.255.61

Come race in Kansas--we have all the flatness and near-sea level you could ever wish for.

From Scott Ensign on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 13:32:56 from 129.123.3.31

if you want to do BF freedom run and you guys need a place to stay friday night you are welcome to stay with Jon or Cody. just kidding, you can stay with me. we have plenty of room for you and the fam. would love to have you.

my take on that new half- 1345 feet elevation drop in 13 miles- just a recipe for injury. and what is it with Utah and its obsession for these silly super aided courses anyway? that's what makes the BB fun- net uphill on a challenging course, so you earn your finish time. of course BF canyon freedom run is aided too, but not that aided... oh well.

From Paul on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 13:42:12 from 65.103.252.214

I'll chime in that the Freedom Run 15K here is Cache Valley is pretty fun. I agree also that the downhill courses are a little silly and excessive at times. But it's either an aided downhill course, or a flat or rolling altitude course. It's a no-win situation for those of us who live out here. I think we just have the make the best of it, and COMPETE every race. There's more to racing than time. Either way, everyone lines up and races the same course, and someone has to win the race.

From allie on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 14:30:00 from 129.123.248.130

nan - yes i am racing on the 3rd. most likely BF freedom run. 95% on that.

as for all the downhill races - i am also a bit tired of them, mostly because they have contributed to injuries. that is one of the reasons why i decided to run in eugene this year. i do love the scenery in the canyons though. emigration is one of my favorites.

From Nan on Tue, Jun 08, 2010 at 17:05:22 from 174.51.250.151

Steve-Thanks for the ideas of other more competitive races. Unfortunately I already have plans that interfere with both of the Championships you suggested. I really don't mind staying local. There is good competition here in CO and I can win a little cash without spending money on travel. I may consider the 20k championships next year though...that looks like a cool one.

Burt-You're right, it doesn't get much more ghetto than that.

April-I would be open to that idea...let me know if you hear of decent race with a little prize money to pay for my trip and I'll venture on out!

Scott-That is not a bad idea actually. I'll run it past Aaron. He'd probably enjoy meeting some of you Logan bloggers too. You make a good point about super downhill courses causing injury. And I'm already registered for Hobble Creek. Maybe I'll let that be my only downhill fiesta this year.

Paul-I agree that its not always about time. Every course is so different its hard to compare them.

Allie-It would be fun to see you at BF...hmmmm...thinking.......

From Nan on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 00:56:30 from 174.51.250.151

Thats it. Scott gave us an offer we could not refuse. We're coming to Logan on July 2nd, staying with him and running the BF canyon 15K. Looking forward to a fun time!

From Jon on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 09:47:54 from 192.107.247.6

Good choice, Nan. The race entry is super cheap, too, especially early entry.
