2 mile warm up

Stretching and 4 strides

10X800M at the track with 200M jog in between each

2:50, 2:51, 2:53, 2:52, 2:53, 2:51, 2:47, 2:51, 2:52, 2:44

The first 5 were actually the hardest because I was pretty daunted by the idea of doing 10.   Once I passed half way I started feeling better and just taking them one at a time.  I took my fuel belt with water and gatorade so I didn't die of thirst.

Glad you didn't die.

great work. what are your thoughts on the yasso theory? looks like you are ready for a 2:50 or better, and you still have 4 weeks to prime! i cannot wait to see what you do in this race.

Never heard of Yasso until you just mentioned it. I just googled it though and I like it! Its funny because I just decided to do 10X800M this morning as I was in that half-way awake dreamy state, trying to get out of bed. 800s sounded a lot more fun than Mile repeats, so I thought I'd shoot for 10. Yasso's theory makes sense to me. I love the simplicity of it! I guess we'll see how accurate it is on September 19th. What is your opinion of it?

Allie, I sure hope you're feeling better soon. Nothing worse than nagging injuries. :(

here is the discussion about it from earlier this year:

http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,1091.0.html

as for me, it has been pretty accurate. i was hitting 3:15-3:20s while training for boston in 2008; ended up with a 3:22. last year at this time i was hitting 2:56-2:58s and ran 2:56 at TOU. could just be a coincidence...???

i like to do this workout about 2 weeks out from a race as a final speed session. whether it is a good predictor or not, it's a great workout, and i find it very motivating if i can hit my target splits 10 times in a row. it builds confidence going into the taper when i start questioning if all the training was enough. so i think about the workout to reassure myself that the work is done.
