Went out on my own this morning and did Grinder. I wanted to see how close I could come to the AF XC team's standard of greatness for running up that hill, with out racing up it. If they do it in 9 minutes or less they get a special t-shirt. I didn't really throw down any race miles but averaging 8 minute pace up that got my heart rate up to 175 bpm. That is a mother of a hill and I made it to the top in about 9:30, then followed the road up to Grove Creek canyon parking lot where I turned around and headed back. It took me a quite a few minutes to recover because I was flying down the mountain. I stopped at a few sprinklers to cool down along the way. It was a great run for me and I did it about 3 minutes faster than I ever had. I am hammered now and might need a nap later. 1:13:24 for the 10 miles.

(Omni- 517 miles)

1000 miles for the year!

So you are saying you are faster than the xc kids? How long/steep is the hill?

From Dustin on Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 15:45:49

I haven't been able to blog much the last few days, but just wanted to say great job on the relay. I had a really good time. I think everyone on our team ran great and had a fun time. I just had some troubles with Fazoli's after my last leg, and trying to sleep at exchange 24. I guess next year I might need to bring more than just a blanket if I'm going to sleep outside in the mountains.

When is your next race?

Jon- I am saying that I almost did met their standard for "stud muffin" today, next time I'll do it. It goes from 4600 feet to almost 5200 feet in 1.3 miles, pretty steep. It kicked my butt!

Dustin- That was good times last weekend. I am not sure when or what my next race will be? I might do a 5k with some of my kids this weekend or try a race on the 4th.

That is right. I figure it is time to bring back some old 80s slang!
