Running Accomplishments:

It was an evening in November 2005 that I'll never forget...I was nearing the end of a long term relationship when I needed to unleash some pent-up anger.  I was driving past a baseball park near my house, when something told me to park my car, and just RUN!!  It wasn't long before I moved on with my life and continued running for new reasons.  I now run because I am truly obsessed!  It is a way of life, and I feel incomplete without my weekly runs.  I have completed 28 half marathons, 78 marathons, 7 ultramarathons, and a few other distance runs.

Personal:

I have a wonderful wife, Melissa, who does not understand why I would want to punish my body with running marathons, but she is very supportive.  She patiently awaits my arrival at the finish line of most of them.  I slipped on a shirt at the last mile of the Ogden Marathon in 2008, that asked: "Melissa, will you Marry Me?"  It was a wonderful moment!

Race: St. George Marathon (26.2 Miles) 03:06:13, Place overall: 252, Place in age division: 44

It finally happened!!  It has ONLY taken me 23 marathons now to reel in my BQ!  Lets just say that I've learned a lot this year about holding back in the first half of a race, and then pulling ahead in the second half.  Today, this yielded me about a 4 minute negative split, which I never felt I had in me.

Coming into this race, I decided to conservatively hang with the 3:10 group, while also runnning my own race.  At times, I was along side the 3:10 group, while others, I hung back by as much as a 1/4 mile on some of the uphills.  (Last year; the hill around mile 18 at St. Ledge's Parkway did me in and cost me the qualifier.  I burned out pulling with the group.)  I really enjoyed this race and was delighted to feel strong in the final miles, without 'hitting the wall.'

YEAH on that BQ and PR! I am happy that you have accomplished your goal. It sounds like you are a very smart runner and had an awesome strategy.

YAHOOO!!! What a great and incredible race for you. Pack your bags and go to Boston, it is worth the 23 marathons that you have run. (I promise)

Race: Provo Halloween Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:24:01, Place overall: 10, Place in age division: 3

This event was a great way to start out a Halloween morning!  It was a well executed event, with better organization than could be expected for a new race.  We started out in an area called "Aspen Grove," which is roughly a couple miles up the road from Sundance.  The near all down-hill course provided some decent finishing times, and allowed me to reach a new pr.  One nice attribute of this course was not having the turn-around near Bridal Veil Falls that the Provo River Half Marathon in August does.
