Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Easy run with MacK this morning.   It was a balmy 35F today!  It felt so nice!  Not too eventful.  I am getting excited for Hawaii, we are leaving tomorrow!

If you come up let me know, I would love to go on a run.

You deserve an easy run today considering how hard you ran yesterday with Ted and Sasha. Very nice training and enjoy Hawaii.

Make sure to keep a good diet. If the food is not good, and there is nothing good around, it is better to go hungry. Something along the lines of "if thine hand offend thee, cut it off" in the New Testament. Difficult adjustment, but breakthroughs are intricately connected to difficult adjustments.

Enjoy your trip...which island are you visiting? If you are on Oahu and in Waikiki, running up and around Diamondhead crater is a fantastic run...about 5-9 miles depending on where you start. A good mix of flat, up and down.

Get refreshed and ready for the new year. And don't worry about the food, there is bound to be something good to eat.

I plan on eating fish (nonfried) crab and fruit! I am sure I won't be perfect, but will try to keep it healthy. Part of one suitcase is dedicated to snack foods we are bringing, which are generally healthy but the real reason why I am doing it is because of the exorbitant prices charged at resorts for snacks. I can stomach paying for a nice meal, but I don't want to pay $1.50 for a granola bar.

Jeff-I am going to the big island. I have been to Oahu and Maui before. I am excited to read, sleep, snorkel, and run. That's about it. Hopefully I won't burn.

Michelle, I hope you have a great time. How fun it will be, just the two of you. Post a good picture that includes a palm tree when you return! So jealous!
