Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran with Ali in SF.  Why did I drive to SF just for the privilege of running in the wind?  it was 54F in the highlands and 45F in the riverbottoms.  Felt good, but some achiness in right foot and tendons above foot for the first 2 miles.  Talked politics with Ali.  Nice to not have my head bitten off because I am not Republican or subscribe to the conservative agenda.

Michelle please tell me you don't believe in abortion, I can handle you being liberal, but say it ain't so;-)

Nice run today too!

Another liberal in south utah county.. no way. I thought I was the only one! Where did you grow up? I grew up in the Bay Area. In CA I am considered VERY conservative, but in Utah I have been labeled as a raving lunatic liberal. Go figure :D

From MichelleL on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 13:31:50

Marion - So Cal (born in Bay Area though). I was conservative there. I'd drive my parents mad in HS with my conservative rhetoric. Now I'm more liberal, probably just to get my neighbors (or blogmates) riled up.

Clay - don't you think our country has bigger issues than abortion to worry about? I consider abortion a dead issue, since its been ruled on over and over in the last 40 years.

Ya I agree but, the questions was do you believe in a women's right to choose, just curious. Looking at the candidates at hand I'm not to optimistic about either one, and I'm registered as an independent! I'll still run with ya either way Michelle, I try to measure people on how they treat others as opposed to there political beliefs:-D

From MichelleL on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 14:17:59

We always have the right to choose, whether society grants us the right or not. Do I believe a person should be thrown in jail for terminating pregnancy? I think not in the first several months, but I haven't drawn a line on where it should become a matter for legal action. On similar grounds, lying is immoral yet we only jail people for lying under oath. I also don't think people should be jailed for fornicating or adultery. I don't think we should legislate morality. It's a tough subject, and I don't think its black and white.

YOu ran in SF because you wanted the aid of the SF wind. :) And of course be able to talk politics without an argument. Thanks for the run.

From TylerS on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 15:41:00

If you run fast with her she won't talk.

Thanks for the comment on being a good writer. I figured that there was no reason for me to write, you did such a great job.

From Teena on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 22:55:14

Michelle, I knew there was a reason, in addition to the super fast running, why I am so impressed with you!! :)

It's funny, every time I talk politics with running partners our pace picks up quite dramatically if we're not careful!! Sure makes for interesting conversation though.

Michelle, I was thinking of you last weekend - Sam (Dean's son) asked us:

"so is your vote not going to count in Utah or Arizona?"

Just so you know, I have never, even for a second, been labeled "conservative" ;-).

From marion on Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 14:22:23

I would LOVE to live in a state where my vote counted in a national presidential election. Don't get me wrong, I always vote, it would just be fun to have a Natioal election that was actually up for grabs :D We'll have to move for that dream to be realized.
