Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

56 minutes at the Payson pool, clumsily pool running.  I don't have an aquajogger belt (yet), so I tried a couple of things but ended up holding two smallish kick boards while doing jogging motion with my legs.  In reality I only was doing something close to a running stride when I really concentrated.  Alot of times it was just more of a high knee kick. If I need to do this pool running I'll need to get more advice on form.  My neck was sore when I got out because by using kickboards, I wasn't in a straight up and down position.  I can see first hand why fartlek is used in pool running.  It is way easy to zone out.  I was fine with it being an easy workout today though because its my first time and I have a race tomorrow.

I am hoping my pain yesterday was an aberration, not a reflection of an injury that will interrupt training.  We'll see tomorrow, won't we?

Glad to know I am the not the only person who cannot figure out pool running. I try and try and it never feels quite right.

When I pool run it is more like an intense biking motion. I found this works better than to try and do a true running thing.

Just read your report from yesterday, I hope everything is ok and ends up going away.I hope its just pre-race related pain. I used to pool run and swim alot when i had stress fractures in high school. I had the aquajogger and it worked pretty good. Good luck tomorrow. Wish I was there racing with you guys!

Josse-would you mind bringing it tomorrow? I'll take it from you if I feel anything significant during or after the race.

Marcie-So are you coming up for any races before Hobble Creek, or is that the first race we'll be all together again?

Hey- the payson pool is right around the corner from me! My kids (4 of them) are on the swim team. Did you run in the shallow with all of the water aroebic ladies or in the lanes. I have tried to run in the pool, but you're right, I think it takes a lesson in form. It's odd and hard to get a feel for it.

Michelle,

Well WBR next weekend. But yah my next one up there will be Hobble. I would love to do D News and Provo 1/2 but infortunately with gas and all the shopping I have done here with my sister I will be out of moola:) But we may be coming up the weekend of july 12 to Provo Canyon, so if we do then we could run a couple days together then.

Pool running, I have done both, deep water, and the lazy river. Lazy river is much better for simulating running. Lazy river, current, running waist deep. Many rec. centers now have these. Hopefully, nothing alarming for you.
