Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Slept in because my son and I were in the ER last night, due to him hurting his back on our new tramp, but he ended up being fine.  Did a run after the kids went to school.  Warmed up 24 min, then stretched, then did 20x25 sec strides, with 60 sec rest in between.  16 min cool down. Ran out of time for more.  Had an emergency dental appt for my same son, little JJ.  Thankfully two sports activities tonight were cancelled due to the rain, decreasing the business.  I have another son who swallowed a quarter last week, and it hasn't passed yet, so we had two medical appts for him today.  The quarter's still hanging out in his tummy, so Miralax for him!

Core in the evening.  I graduated to level 3 of stage 2.  It is:

20x plank with leg lifts, each leg

20x side plank with leg lifts

3x20x scissor kicks

25x metronome (I only did 21 this time, will try to increase one each workout.  These are so killer and stress my lower back)

25x bicycle

20x three ways Jane Fonda leg lifts (leg lifts without being in side plank position)

25x sunrise lifts

then I add 30x3sec bridge and another ab workout my PT gave me that I won't try to describe.  This just builds off my prior workout, but turning the screw did make it harder.

Bummer about the ER. We had to do that a couple months ago.

wow. Sorry to hear about all the medical visits ... although I feel badly about the quarter, it actually was pretty funny too ;0). I wonder if I have any spare change laying around in there? Maybe that is where the extra couple of lbs is from - oh wait we don't use lbs ;-).

It looks like the mileage build-up is working well for you!! yea.

I haven't gotten my core dvd yet, so I have just been doing a lot of "pre-core" to get ready -- lots of planks, some lower body curls on our huge contraption that Dean bought (Power tower). I can't wait for the dvd to come so I can see what you are talking about!!
