Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Horrible sleep last night!  Have had some good email chats with my coach over last two days.  I am shooting for OTQ in three weeks.  I will be resting as much as needed, trying to make every decision a marathon-helping decision.  Today I was going to go into work after my PT appt, and I will still drop in, but I need to head home for a hairy nap given my sleep last night.

AM: warm up, stretching, then 15 x 1 min on/off, 5:41 ave pace for on bits, pretty even throughout.  11.32 miles total

PM: 4.56 with Mack @ 8:00 pace.

Hip hip hooray for you, Michelle. Let's do lunch before your big race. I promise to remember it this time!

Will the San Diego marathon have pacers for the OTQ time to help you reach your goal?

Hey girl...good luck with qualifing. You can totally do it. I have a friend here in AZ with three daughters all under 3 and she is shooting for the Olympics. Stay true to you!

Best wishes for your upcoming marathon (I'm assuming you're doing San Diego). Try to just relax and not overthink things. While it's good to make marathon-helping decisions, the truth is, the hay in the barn, and it's probably more about the decisions you've made every day for the last six months than anything that happens right before the race. Enjoy your taper.

Paul is a very wise man ;-).
