Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Can I tell you how much I hate swimming?  I can't breathe!  I am so bad at it.  It just goes to show we are much more apt to like things we are decent at, and dislike what we are not.

I went to the Orem Rec Center this morning since I had training in Orem.  I was to swim and pool run.  I had an hour.  The pool is 50m long.  WAY long if you ask me.  I decided I would freestyle one direction, then backstroke the other way, because I am bad at the freestyle, and haven't swam for quite a bit (April of last year?).  I did one distance freestyle, then one backstroke, then made maybe 1/3 of the way across doing freestyle on the second go around, felt like I was suffocating, so switched to the backstroke and decided to start the pool running shortly thereafter.  So I made it a measly 200m, and only about 67m of freestyle.  That's just sad. That took about 10 minutes.  I then switched to pool running.  Did I mention I have a new swimsuit?  It's the Gracie from Lime Ricki http://www.limericki.com/browse.cfm/gracie-tankini-top/4,78.html, thanks MacK for referring me to this website.  At least I looked sharp as I marched from the swimming lanes to the pool running area in defeat.  It was a noble effort.

Pool ran 50 minutes, took it easy, but alternated how I did my arms (resistence style with flat hands like Josse taught me at times, that's harder) and legs for variety.

30 minutes of elliptical in afternoon.  Also finished assembling our family's first trampoline.  That took some muscle.

Core workout in evening.

Swimming would be much easier if I had aqualungs built in.
