Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Met Tyler, Travis, MacK and Aub and did a long warm up, 5.19 miles, then started a tempo.

Cheated on the tempo, was supposed to do 3-5 @ 6:10-6:26, so decided to do 5 slower, and to start where MacK starts her tempo, but she didn't end up tempoing with us.  Cheated because there was a net drop of 198 feet:

My watch said 5.00 miles, but I ran another .03-.05 than Tyler and Travis, who surged in the last mile even more than me.  We almost got attacked by two dogs in the first mile.  Glad to get it done and survive the whole thing.  31:50 for whole thing.

Awesome tempo run Michelle! i don't think that's cheating, , , just speeding!

once again I need some garmin help. where do you find the elevation statements? Thanks Michelle. AND once again super awesome workout!! BTW, you looked great at the race!!

Julie - this is information from the course tool, not the garmin. I think the garmin can give you elevation, but I've never tried to figure it out.

The elevation on the course tool has been totally whack on the courses I have made. It says that I climb 10,000 ft in the last mile :(

Excuse me, I mean 70,000 ;D

FANTASTIC tempo run! I wouldn't know the difference b/w cheating and aided speediness! :) Scary about the dogs. Glad you survived!
