Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Met Sasha. James flaked. We did mile repeats. I don't have time for too much detail. Sasha wanted to only do 200m rest, but I wanted to work vo2 max, so we compromised and increased rest to 400 m after #2 because I did in fact need it.

1 - 5:40, 200 rest in 1:51

2 - 5:46.5, 400 rest in 3:57

3 - 5:45, 400 rest in 4:15

4 - 5:45, but only because I was able to pull out an 83 for the final quarter.

On miles 2-4 I had a hard time at the end, but Sasha harrassed me into a good workout.

I am pleased. I would say the pace was 10k goal pace, with current 10k pace at around 6:00 pace.

Glute felt fine, but sore after a little.

Update: was at training in SLC all day, glute got quite stiff and sore as I sat for long periods of time. Not a good injury for sitting :) I had the kids try to stand on it after dinner, and Paul worked it out at night. It now feels fine (I'm writing this Wed morning). I ran one mile with Benji @ 9:41, a pr for him by alot, and below my 10minute threshold so I can count the mileage at face value. Then we did 2 striders.

Nice workout. 200 rest is a bear.

Is there a group meeting Saturday in Provo Canyon?

Awesome! I agree with Marion. :-)

These are some very solid times, Michelle. I think that Sasha is a great training partner and motivator for tough workouts (not to take anything away from your effort!). Well done.

Well done Michelle, those are some awesome times...

Steve - I do not know about Provo Canyon, but you can definitely join me for a long run. The time has not yet been decided, but will probably be 6:30 AM from my house at 339 N 1120 W in Provo.

Thanks all!

Steve - Run with us not Sasha :) We are meeting at 5:30 at the base of Provo Canyon (see announcements in discussion forum) and going up and down.
