ran 13 miles to the gym to do some weight lifting and strength training. Did some strength training and weight lifting for an hour. Then, did some speed work by running 3.1 miles between in a 7.7 to a 9.4 pace. Ran the 3.1 miles in 22.30 minutes. Afterwards, ran 4 miles back home.

I did not get a lot of sleep last night because i got home too late from traveling and i was a little nervous about my work out today because of that. I am happy that I still had some energy and had a pretty good work out today. I am going to make sleep a priority for the rest of the week (and beyond of course:))

Some thoughts on your training. The mileage looks good. One concern is how you are handling it. Make sure to eat enough and to sleep enough. If you feel tired, do not be afraid to back off to 8-10 miles a day to recover.

Try to race once every two weeks or so if you can. If you cannot find a race, measure out a course near your house (ideally with a wheel, if you do not have one, you can just plot it with the Course Tool), and run a time trial. Ideally, it would be nice to find somebody to do it with. Either a faster runner that will pace you, or somebody your level plus or minus that will make you extend yourself. The races could be anywhere from 5 K to the half marathon.

I noticed you ran a 5 K in 23:46. That puts you within a shooting range for 3:40 marathon.

Also - I am curious what you can do in an all out 800 meters. Find a track near your house, warm-up, do a few accelerations, and then run 2 laps as fast as you can. Record your 200 meter splits and the finish time. If you've never run track, the 200 meter mark is half way through the lap and you will usually see two lines there, one straight, and one arced that starts at the same place as the first, and then diverges from it.
