I will run later, but wanted to point out two of our blog members will be running the Across the Years race down in Phoenix this week.  Jim Skaggs (UltraJim) and Davy Crockett (Crockett). Jim is running the 72 hour race starting at 9 a.m. this morning (this is a lap race on an estate) and is attempting to run 200 miles.  Davy starts on Tuesday morning for a 24 hour race and is hoping to make 110 miles.  If you go to the Across the Years web site - you can see their times and pictures.  Both of them have told me they would appreciate emails with encouragement, telling them to eat, funny (or stupid) jokes, etc to read as they run their laps.  The link for these emails (send greetings link) is at http://www.acrosstheyears.com/.  Thanks!

PM: I went out for a 3 mile run and got motivated and did 5.5 miles.  The roads were not too bad, but started icing up as it got darker.  After just one week I can already tell that daylight is lasting a teensy bit longer.

Thanks Maurine! That will be fun to check out!

Good for you to post your weight! I am thinking about it come New Years. You look awesome as is, but I know we can go faster and longer if we lose, so good luck to the both of us!!!

From MARION on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 20:11:14

Nice moves lady! You are getting speedy fast. I love the "run to failure" from Sasha last week. Are you coming down to the race in Provo this Wed? I am 98% committed to it. :) I am a bit afraid to race and bust something up before Painters. I need 13 miles that day, maybe I'll come up and warm up with you guys and run the 10k as part of my 13 or something. I make myself nuts with all of the plans!!

From tarzan on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 21:25:40

Marion - unless something drastic happens with the weather or work I am planning on running the race on Wednesday. It scares me a little because I know I can run sub 10 minute miles, but I mentally seem to 'poop' out before then.

From MARION on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 23:39:02

You'll be fine. Just do the first mile in 10:15-20 then the next in 9:50-55 and the third is cake, in 9:30-9:40. If you are a little conservative on the first mile, and don't gun it on the second, you can live through the last mile 100% steam ahead! You can do anything for one mile. This is what I have been working on in my tempo runs, and it has helped me a ton. I am hoping for a tempo run on Saturday and then one next week. You really can do it. Just remember:

Mile 1- speedy, but conservative

Mile 2- faster, but keep a bit in the tanks

Mile 3- gradually increase speed and at about a 1/2 mile to go... DRAIN THE TANKS BABY!! You are not saving it for anything.

***Now this is Marion's approach to 5k's and she is a moron... so ignore anything stupid she has said :D***

Sasha came back and got me with a 1/2 mile to go at Onion Days and pushed me on strong. It was hard, but I could do it. My legs were hammered and it is as close to crying as I have ever come. There is something really cool about being able to say that you could not have given one speck more.

From leslie on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 00:16:18

This "speedy" talk is painful! I am not going to make the 5K, I will be anxious to hear how you guys do!!! Good Luck!!

From tarzan on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 12:38:20

Thanks, Marion. That makes me a little less scared. Are you going to be there to push me along?

From DonGardinero on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 15:15:48

Tarzan.

Great job putting the a couple of extra miles. Are you running the 5k at Sugarhouse Park on New Year's Eve?

I've been checking in on ol' Jim Skaggs at Across the Years. He's been doing great. Makes me tired just thinking about him running all those miles.

Yeah - Jim is doing great. I noticed your email message to him earlier. I have my daughter in Italy posting for him in the middle of the night.

Check out Davy Crockett too. He is trying to break 110 miles in 24 hours.

I am running a 5K race tomorrow afternoon in Provo. (Provo New Year Run) How about you?

From DonGardinero on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 16:07:18

I was thinking about the one in Sugarhouse if I can get off work, but it's not looking good. I probably better pass since I have a cold. Good luck at your race. Do you have a time goal?

From tarzan on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 16:09:01

Sasha wants me to push as hard as I can.

My A plan is sub 28

My B plan is sub 29

My C plan is sub 30

My PR is 31:28 on a short 5K course

From MARION on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 16:22:15

So that is like a 9:19 min mile? You are too cool for school! I can't wait to see what happens! :)
