.4 miles running with Twilight.  She was excited to hear that she now has an official name - Tarzans Twilight.  Of course, I'm not sure I should have named her after me since I just gave her a tuna fish can to lick out and she just stood there and growled and barked at it like an enemy. (Maybe she was reacting to Kelli's suggestion that I get a big dog)?

Finished up my scouting expedition tonight.  However - I am shaking in my wet clothes - so it can wait until after my bath.

/*********/

Went back to Draper tonight.  I found that it is .3 miles from the Albertsons parking lot to the start of the Porter Rockwell Trail. There is a little park across the street from the start of the trail on 13th East - so we could meet there if  people want and not have to do the last big hill.

Here is mileage on the Porter Rockwell Trail from the start to the finish. This trail is a series of small uphills and downhills in the middle section

  • .8 mile mark - 1st turnoff to the start of the Draper Canal Trail
  • 1.75 mile mark - South Mountain bridge on 13th East
  • 3.5 mile mark - Bridge over Bangerter Parkway
  • 5.5 mile mark - end of trail
  • 11 miles - out and back total

Here is mileage on the Draper Canal Trail. This trail is a gradual uphill from NorthEast to SouthWest

  • 2.6 miles from start to finish
  • 5.2 miles roundtrip

There is 1/10 of a mile from the Porter Rockwell trail at both the start and end of the Draper Canal Trail.  The start is about .8 on Porter Rockwell and the end is at 3.5 on Porter Rockwell.  You could make a small loop of this - which is what I did tonight.

I ran on the gravel/sandy sides of the Draper Canal Trail to give me some trail mileage for my ultra.  This trail crosses 13th East right at the Stake Center where all the cars and buses meet for the Draper Temple Open House.

Also - each time crossing 13th East was pretty busy tonight.  Since a lot of it was buses, I think most of it is related to the temple open house.

Lots more energy tonight. I bonked last night because I had not eaten enough food today. It felt a lot easier today since I ate better.

Maurine, oh please tell me you didn't go scouting just for me? I feel horrible if you take upon yourself this adventure/mission to accommodate me. THANK YOU for all the options and the kind offer to run with me from your house. I decided that logistically it's too complicated. 1) The limit of time. It's gonna take me 3.5 to 4 hours to run 20. 2) The car issue. My son has to be in Orem at 11:45 am for his violin lesson. Hubby is skiing, no help there. 3) No one would really be running with me much anyway and I'd be lost on unfamiliar trails and roads.

I really rather run with you gals; but perhaps another time when it's not a 20 miler. But, I so look forward to seeing you at the party in the evening. THANKS again for checking out the trails for me. I hope you got something warm to drink and eat after your bath.

wow cool scouting for everyone. that is awesome.

laughing about your dog sorry she didn't like the tuna.

Smooth - don't worry. I didn't run it for you. I ran it for me. I had to find out where both trails were and how long they were.

Girl you are the BOMB, now I can have my very own personal tour guide on Sat. Should we meet at Albertsons at 7:45 like we originally planned? We will miss you Smooth, but life gets messy sometimes, it is hard to squeeze everything in, we will run that route alot I am sure, so we will eventually hook up.

Twilight is scared of Tuna??? TUNA?? even Stella likes tuna, and she's scared of her own shadow...

From tarzan on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 09:32:49

Les - yep. 7:45 at Albertsons. Shall I bring Paradise Bakery cookies?

Jenn - no - Twilight is simply an idiot. She licks out half the can and then I think she gets mad at it when it gets hard. Maybe she is trying to scare the tuna out of the cracks. Last night she was eating a sticker she found and I had to cut it out of the fur on her paws today.

Silly Twilight! She is the cutiest ever!

Hey, Paradise cookies sound WONDERFUL! I am not sure who is showing up, but I will be there. I am really looking forward to this run. The treadmill has been okay, but I haven't run on solid ground outside in weeks. How many miles are thinking about? I was hoping for about 15, but again, I am flexible and could be talked into anything, your race is coming up first, so I am game for whatever ( I guess that was dangerous, I mean I am not up more than 16) I guess it is no biggies if we are taking our own cars.
