Personal:

I am 26 years old. I am the Production Coordinator for all visual communications for Kiawah Island Real Estate. I've been a runner since high school, and I have a competitive nature that should explain my high mileage. I challenge myself to accomplish what I never imagined I could do, and I try to encourage myself and others to push their limits. I'm usually late to parties and social gatherings, since I have to get the run in first...(but luckily, I have great friends who acknowledge my routine). I suffered a bad case of plantar fasciitis March of 2010, and I picked up cycling/spinning while I recovered. Surprisingly, I totally loved it. I only ran on a whim or on weekends, or on vacation days when my gym was closed. This fall, I finally got back into the swing of things and started racing again. I'll try to update my races and runs more frequently. I'd like to be where I was 2 years ago....12 miles a day...I mean...what?!?! =)

The pain in my feet eased up today, but I had a little mishap with a guard rail on the roof of the gym (there's a track up there). I inadvertently ran my fist into the front of the railing when I came around the curve. Terribly painful. It was like punching a steel wall. This is why I ran 12 instead of the usual 13. The last half a mile was a disaster, and I knew an additional mile just wasn't happening. We'll see how tonight goes!

I've done that before on an indoor track suspended above a gym, and it smarts like crazy... At least, assuming you didn't crack anything, it subsides relatively quickly....

Do you do all of your mileage on treadmills and indoor tracks? Impressive...

My hand is functioning ok for the most part, it's mostly just really bruised and swollen.

During the winter months on the weekdays, I've been on an indoor track, since running for almost 2 hours in the dark is probably not the best idea. I'd definitely rather be outside, but until the days get a little longer, I'm staying inside. But I can't run more than a mile or 2 on a treadmill. My pace changes too much and I need space to move about (or flail about, as I apparently did last night!).

I feel your pain about long hours in the dark during winter months, but I suspect that the same 2-hour peaceful run through dark neighborhoods wouldn't be quite as pleasant for you (sad but true male/female discrepancy in running...)

I used to do a fair amount of training indoors, usually starting with an hour on a treadmill, then moving up to an indoor track to fill out mileage, but I could only handle that for 50-60/week, and I haven't tried it in a couple of years...

I was running in the dark for a while but my poor mom was so worried about me, so to ease her stress, I joined a nice safe gym. I definitely prefer the great outdoors. I am very excited about springtime.

you run about 13 miles a day on an indoor track? Wow. One time I ran 14 miles on a _230 yd indoor track and that amounted to 100 laps. I had to change directions every 10 or else I would have ruined my knees. How many laps is 13 miles at your gym? You must have tough knees and you must not get dizzy. If the track is 220 yds that is 104 laps.

From Running on Full on Fri, Feb 26, 2010 at 09:34:57 from 208.60.95.30

My track is 6 laps to a mile, so I go 72 times around for 12, then 6 laps for mile 13 as my cool down. The most I've run indoors I think was 15 miles. Anything over that I have to do outside or I'd lose my mind (and probably lose count!).
