Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Sub 40:00 10K
  • 2:59 Marathon
  • 1:25 Half Marathon
  • 18:30 5K

Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain my health and continuously seek to improve my fitness. Maybe someday get under 3:00 for marathon. More importantly, I'd like to figure out what my maximum ability is and reach that.

I'd also like to find the right balance in life and use running to enhance and improve myself.

Personal:

Dad of  three (welcome Charlotte Dani on 8/10/20) awesome kids and stepdad to three almost as awesome as my own kids.

I have a brown dog named Stella, and three cats - Catty, Tortie, and Esperanza.

(old lines that were a little out of date but couldn't quite bring myself to removing them completely:) Also, have one wonderful brown dog named Sammy and just added a grey tiger cat (Catty) whose life started out rough but now has a better home.

I've recently started another blog so I can easily add lots of pictures and so other non-FRB users can leave comments:

Forward Progress!

Also, for 2012 I started a blog to write down each day one thing that I am grateful for

Grateful Blog

Love living in Florida but love to travel and see the country and rest of the world.

I think this was the hardest long run that I have ever done.  26 degrees at the start.  Had to borrow a fleece from my mother-in-law to go on top of the two shirts that I was wearing which weren't going to cut it by themselves.  My shins (mostly my left one) were tight and it was difficult to get moving for the first few miles.  Fortunately, I had Jenny for company the whole way.  Lots of rolling hills.  And through some strange twist on geography and laws of physics there was more uphill than downhill on an out and back course!

It sure was nice to finish!

Average pace: 8:54

Besides, letting me borrow some extra clothes, my mother-in-law also cooked some pretty awesome home made waffles for breakfast with some fresh blueberries on the side!

I ran later in the day today to wait for the sun.  Pretty nice weather, fun with hills in Jenny's parents neighborhood.

Average pace: 8:22

In the morning, before the run, went to a 1 hour yoga class which helped loosen me up from yesterday's run.

We were supposed to do a tempo run but we were both feeling not quite up to it, so we decided to mainly take it easy.  About half way through we did 10 fartlek runs where we each took turns picking out a spot to run to.  Some of them were on a soccer field.  More hills again today, can't seem to find any place flat.  It would be good if we had more time to adapt to constant hill training.  Good run overall.

Slept terribly last night.  Coming down with a sore throat.  Supposed to run 13 miles.  Thought about canceling the run.  Jenny was still going to run hers so I decided I'd at least start out with her and if I didn't go too hard for too long it might actually help clear up some congestion.  Ran two miles with her before she continued on her longer route.  Ended up with 6 miles, so not a total loss.

Average pace: 8:30

After the run got on the road for the drive back to Tampa.

Slept poorly again, cold has gotten worse.  Fortunately the hotel in Mobile had two working treadmills in the exercise room.  Decided to try again with an easy run.  Felt a little bit better after the run.

Average pace: 8:31

One more day of driving to get home.

Felt a little bit better this morning.  Jenny had 13 on her schedule (adjusted earlier in the week and did 11 on the 13 mile day).  Jenny's friend Carin and Cherise ran with us.  I decided I try to run the first loop and see how I felt.  Kept on going after the warm up and surprisingly felt ok to get in 12 miles.  I did stop a couple extra times than normal and went a little bit slower but got the miles in.

Went to Starkey park.  It was pretty empty this morning.  Matt was there and wondered why no one else was there.  The group run was switched to Sunday instead.  Still some coughing left over but maintained a decent pace and ran pretty even.  Very nice morning out and it was great to talk with Matt who also happened to be running 15 miles this morning.
