Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Sub 40:00 10K
  • 2:59 Marathon
  • 1:25 Half Marathon
  • 18:30 5K

Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain my health and continuously seek to improve my fitness. Maybe someday get under 3:00 for marathon. More importantly, I'd like to figure out what my maximum ability is and reach that.

I'd also like to find the right balance in life and use running to enhance and improve myself.

Personal:

Dad of  three (welcome Charlotte Dani on 8/10/20) awesome kids and stepdad to three almost as awesome as my own kids.

I have a brown dog named Stella, and three cats - Catty, Tortie, and Esperanza.

(old lines that were a little out of date but couldn't quite bring myself to removing them completely:) Also, have one wonderful brown dog named Sammy and just added a grey tiger cat (Catty) whose life started out rough but now has a better home.

I've recently started another blog so I can easily add lots of pictures and so other non-FRB users can leave comments:

Forward Progress!

Also, for 2012 I started a blog to write down each day one thing that I am grateful for

Grateful Blog

Love living in Florida but love to travel and see the country and rest of the world.

I wanted to go a little bit farther.  Although I felt kind of slow and clunky, the pace was not too bad, ending up at 9:34 average.  Ran from Westlake, south through the cut through and over to the Pinellas Trail and then north to just past Conservation Park. Quick stop there on the way back to take a gel and use the fountain.

I was planning on doing a tempo run on a longer out and back but had to change plans a little bit.  Had sod installed in the front yard but the sprinkler system was damaged, so was waiting on irrigation repair person (all day window with 30 minute advance call).

So, I did 4 loops through Westlake neighborhood (actually more like a figure 8) so that I'd always be less than 30 minutes from home (maybe like 10 minutes at the farthest).

It felt a little boring at first, and then especially at the start of the third loop.  Twice, I had to stop a pet a big dog that ran out to greet me.  The first time I didn't know if the dog was friendly (the owner, who was working on top of his roof assured me he was).  The second time around I knew the drill with the dog.  And, the third time past the dog, he just sat on the front yard looking at me - I guess I was no longer interesting.

Weather was great.

Also, I started going faster most of the 4th loop and did the last mile about 7:27 pace.

9.0 mi, 1:13:11, 8:04 avg,

5 mile tempo run, after about 2 mile warm up, and then 2 mile easy jog home.

Would have liked to have averaged 7:00 pace, but wasn't quite there.

First two miles of the tempo I just couldn't keep my legs moving, then I resigned myself to not quitting.  Third mile, finally 6:57, then 7:04, and finally 6:56

So, splits: 7:16, 7:12, 6:57, 7:04, 6:56

That 5th mile felt really hard.

Decided I'd need to not go out at 7:00 pace this Sunday, but instead 7:10 would be a better goal (and even that pace might require some race day magic).

Nice, relatively short run in Starkey Park. Out and back from the bike parking lot on the main bike trail.  Taking it easy but not too slow before tomorrow's race (Holiday Halfathon)
