| | I am guessing that a smart runner might plan her long runs around the weather forecast these days. So, since I am striving to be a "smart" runner, I am going to shoot for Wednesday, as it appears to be the last nice day before a new year storm. I am of course going to practice my flexibility and be willing to move it as needed. Being able to run outside is going to require new mental and physical skills for me. I need this outside time. I need a twelve or 13 mile run this week to be ready for Painters. Mentally, I need a 13 just to really know that I can do it. I wanted my longest run to be on the 3rd so I can have an easy week the next week (5- 5 milers and 1- 7 miler) The week of the race I am going to do a 5,4,4,3, off, RACE DAY!! I am getting excited and worried and more excited all the time! | Comments(5) |

1:00:48, ave 12:09, best 8:13 (this was for my last .33 :), Laps- 11:55, 10:46, 12:13, 12:26, 12:39 This was supposed to be a tempo run at about 10:30 average. I was not feeling it at all. I am not sure if it was that this 3 mile stretch is totally flat or I am just lame or BOTH? Aside from what I had envisioned, the run turned out great and if it had been a regular run, I'd be thrilled. Especially since the first .66 of mile five is a BEAST of an up hill! LONG and steady up hill. Have a great day! Oh wait, I have to tell you about the goose hearding miniture goats. There is this little farm on my route with a gaggle of geese, they look like canadian to me, peacocks, peahens and miniature goats. Today the peacock was out by the road :) Yesterday the little goats were hearding the geese all over the place. From a distance I thought they were Australian Heelers, but as I got closer I could see that the geese were being rounded up by all of these darling little goats.

Alrighty-
I am very pleased with today's run. The first 1/2 mile was doing my
visiting teaching. I dropped Chex Mix off to the ladies and an angel
to the teacher last Sunday. I am feeling pretty ingenious and a bit
lecherous doing run by's! :D Anyway- I decided that I should check out
my old usual runs to see if they could take part in my 13 miler
tomorrow. They are OK. One part is pretty bad, but it will be OK. I
am going to do 2 of my 5 mile routes with PB and drink breaks at my
house then I will throw in a little 3 mile loop to top it off. I am
kind of excited about the whole thing!
Now about today's actual
running. It was slow and boring until I remember something I had read
on one of your blogs about strides. So for my last mile, I threw in 5,
100 step strides. I learned a few things, #1 I can't count to 100
while I run. I can count to 50 so I did that 2x's to get 100. #2, I
count with my eyes closed. This is not great when you are dodging
snow, ice and a snow plow! #3 I got faster with each stride. That was
exciting and surprising all at the same time. My first stride was just
over 10:00 min mile and the last was 8:10. They naturally and gradually
decreased on their own. I went all out on the last stride at got the
8:10. #4 They were really fun and I liked them. I am going to do them
again!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Party like crazy and have a great run
in the morning. I am really excited about tomorrow's run. If anyone is
bored and wants to come, I'd LOVE the company!! |

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I am officially ready for Painters. If nothing else happens at
Painters, I will have at least run it and not died :) The
miles all felt just fine except the last one. My legs were tired and
getting a bit achy. As a matter of fact, I will not type for very long
so I can keep moving and not atrophy in a seated position. ;)
I
had a few surprises on today's run. The first is when I was bent over
stretching and Michelle and MacKenzie ran past me. I was so excited to
meet MacKenzie and see Michelle. We ran for a block or two and then the
speedsters headed off into the distance. This was in my first mile, so
it really perked things up for me. The next surprise happened at the
mile 2 marker. I was heading off into this dark field. I heard a
strange noise and totally freaked out and turned and ran home!
I did 3 of my regular loops to make the 13 with two potty breaks at home. Potty breaks at home are so much nicer than bushes! BTW- I was on the middle of page two of the mileage board when I posted this this morning. Cool eh?

1:08:00/13:36 on the treadmill WOW! Isn't the snow BEAUTIFUL!?! If I wasn't having major sinus trouble and needing a really easy run, I would have braved the out doors. My calves were pretty tense this morning and needed a ton of stretching thoroughout the run. It seemed to help. I also watched 50 First Dates while I ran. It is one of my favorite movies. I cry like a baby at the end when they are on the boat and she is holding and looking at her little girl. Anyway- I am off ot hit the shower and something else important. I can't remember what. Oh- and by the way- my mileage ROCKS this week. It is my hightest miles yet! I am going to do a happy dance ;D
