I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

My lower back was really acting up during today's run :(  It felt like it does when it used to give out.  Weird!  I even laid down on the sidewalk to twist it out ;)  After the warm up, I felt really good, minus the lower back pain ;)  I was feeling so good by the end of mile three, that I pulled out a 9:00 minute mile :)  Whoo hoo!  I am starting to think of what my strategy for my next 5k might be, hmmmmm.  I want to do a 10K in April.  Any ideas???

The school called.  Ashley (14) just got hurt.  Fortunately the doc waited for us so we got to skip the ER ;)  It appears that she injured her collateral ligament.  BUMMER!!  She's down for 2 weeks at least :(  She's in the Jr Highs production of Oklahoma next week.  I wonder how that will go?  Good times!!!

Awesome on the 9 mm! At the rate you were going - you would have soon been down to a 6 mm. Why did you quit so soon?

Sorry to hear about Ashley. Where is the collateral ligament?

6 mm, I don't think so ;) What you been smoking? ;) I quit because the training schedule said 4 miles and I had to go to work ;)

The collateral ligament runs from the femur to the tibia along the inside of the knee. There might be one on the outside of the knee as well. She damaged the one on the inside of her knee fooling around at lunch :(

Sorry to hear about Ashley's injury. Is she in a brace? Hope it heals fast. AWESOME 9 minute mile!!! 10K in April sounds like a fun idea. I'm sure there're lots of Easter runs. Lehi is hosting an Easter 5K, not sure if there's a 10K.

Yes- she is in a brace for at least 2 weeks if she improves over the weekend. If she appears to be getting worse, we will take her in to a orthopedic surgeon on monday. Here's hoping that RICE will be the perfect cure :) Actually no "c", just the brace ;) I am glad it was her and not another of my kids. She is super tough and has a super high pain threshold. It makes caring for her a bit easier. I do have to warn the doc's though. If Ash says it hurts, it hurts!

The cool thing about the 9 mm is that I really felt like I could have gone further ;)

Nice 9:00 mile--sounds like you had a few more under your belt if you kept going! You are getting faster and faster!

YaY!!!! How awesome Marion. Completely understand about the back problem though...our bodies just have a limit. You are getting stronger and stronger!!! Just tame the back...heat and a massage and a willing husband.
