Sasha was kind enough to show me his course this morning and have a go at diagnosing my weak points. We left his house and ran 5.2 or so up Provo canyon, super slow (8s). Then he told me to take off back down at a speed I could hold for 3 miles, like half marathon race pace. So I did. But having him there triggered a full-on case of the out too fasts and I did the first mile in a holy smokes 5:06. Felt pretty good at the end of it too. But after the middle of the second mile, the wheels started to come off. It's not very downhill  (65,69,60 feet down) but even so I got 5:31 and 5:32 - that third mile was bloody murder. I started it at 102% and finished it at 105% and when Sasha called for a kick I wondered to myself if he meant "the bucket". Also I thought I was going to take a dump right there on the trail and let's hear it for UCCU for leaving a door open so I could get to business before, well, things got worse. 2 easy miles back and I felt like a million bucks on the way home. Except the intestines are still complaining a bit. I know I got a few seconds faster on my 5k today!

Wow I have never drunk this much water after a workout. It's like I am a bottomless well all day long. I don't think I fully appreciate today's intensity :) Now I can hardly wait for Saturday - I didn't damage anything and it all feels very .. healy. Especially after a short nap during lunch.

Well done Dave. Very funny write-up too. I hope the intestines relax, I mean improve.

All good now -urp-

Dave - the splits were 5:09, 5:28, 5:32. I think thirst afterwards is a very good sign. Means something happened that requires water to rebuild/repair, and is usually a good thing - it would be safe to guess, I think, that your metabolism increased, and that usually leads to improvement in performance.

I didn't start my watch until I was moving fast so that might be where the 3 seconds came from. I also didn't notice that itty bitty triangle in time to stop my watch :)

It does feel like somebody switched on turbine #4 though. It's only 20 after 4 and I have the munchies bad....

Yup, that last mile will suck it right out of you.. Once you get the aerobic house built though your going to be scary Dave.

From Dave Taylor on Tue, May 14, 2013 at 20:38:10 from 174.23.78.194

I am finally seeing how it works, and very excited to do it. Now if I can just put in a lot of 7:30 miles to build that house then we'll see

Aaaaaagh! It's another super fast Steve! I swear they are everywhere :)
