1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Ahhhhh.  So this is how it feels to run a race without heat exhaustion.  MUCH better.

1st mile on residential roads with lots of 90 degree turns.  8:12

2nd mile on residential roads--most of it one long stretch.  8:22

3rd mile with a little uphill and a psych-out ending (you head towards the finish line and get all excited, but you have to pass it and do another loop and come back).  Partial road, partial grass. 8:53

last .15 in 1:05 (7:27 pace)

This is the first  race I've run this year that I haven't had to lay down within 3 minutes of finishing.  In fact, I kept my feet under me the whole time.   I waited around for about an hour to get the results, and met a lot of fun people.  A lot of really good runners on this course!  Probably because it was a certified course--and very well organized, imo--chip timing and everything.  Several people were trying for the OTQ time in both men's and women's divisions.  A couple of Kenyans showed up to win the race by quite a bit.  I went and congratulated them--they were both very nice.

I felt really good this whole race.  Obviously I was glad when it was over, but I had a much better mental attitude this race.  No fear, just excitement.   I had really wanted to push the second mile, because it is usually my downfall, and I think I succeeded.   I give myself a silver medal for effort with the 26:31.  Gold would've been 25:59.  Bronze 26:59.  Post high school PR by 31 seconds.  : )

I set a new Lybi record by NOT getting lost in Phoenix, despite the city's best attempts to derail me with 2 closed freeways along my route.  Dah!  How'd they know I was coming?

Weekly mileage record at 24 and change.  Yea!

Congratulations on a PR!

From christi on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 14:33:44

Have you ever considered journalism as a PT job? You would make a great column writer! Great job on the race today!!!! Hope you are patting yourself on the back! I'm gonna show my ignorance here- what is a OTQ time?

From Lybi on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 14:51:13

Christi--OTQ = Olympic Trials Qualifier.

In college my Intensive Writing teacher encouraged me to pursue writing. Maybe someday...

From James the hubby on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 15:15:37

Congratulations, sweetheart! You did a great job. The only bad thing about this race was that I wasn't able to be there with you. Way to PR, your times will continue to drop as your fitness and confidence in yourself continue to improve.

From Tom on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 15:26:44

Great race Lybi! That HS record is getting withing shooting distance!

From Shauna on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 15:30:42

Excellent!!! Isn't running well in a race such a good feeling? I live somewhat near Moon Valley and saw the very cool posters advertising the race. I bet you got a great t-shirt! Your consistency in your daily runs has been impressive-a job well done. I agree on the writing, by the way!

Good job on navigating Phoenix!

From Dave Holt on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 17:01:44

I guess it was worth racing. Good job!

From Dave Holt on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 17:05:27

I've decided to take back my congratulations based upon your assumption that St. George runners are punks! Although I my resemble that remark, I also am quite displeased at it. ;)

And you even get the pleasure of being my first emoticon recipient ever! I may never do it again as it wasn't as fun as I had hoped.

From Brent on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 17:18:14

Confidence is contagious, great, great and super great, runner's high at the highest. Commando points - 100 for a PR and no whining, no self-doubt, being strong.

From Dustin on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 17:23:17

Congrats on doing the race and running well, also for not getting lost in Phoenix my sister lives in Gilbert so I understand the traffic thing. Don't mind Dave, I just told him this morning on our run that you called us St. George Running guys a bunch of punks! I know we are a rough bunch, especially the wildbull. Actually, I'm a nice guy married, 3 kids, and I even took piano lessons for 5 years, so that should count for something. Anyway, good luck to you and your husband. You guys are both lucky you can support and encourage each in your training.

Congratulations on a wonderful race and not getting lost and a record mileage week!

Like Christi, I think you are a great writer, too. If you wanted to pursue writing, what would you write? Columns, novels, hallmark cards--just kidding. But, I am curious.

From Cody on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 18:14:27

Congratulations! Next time you are thinking about getting out of racing you had better up the number of comments required by 10x's as you are quickly becoming the most popular blogger. So much support! You better feel good about that.

Look at how far you have come already in your short stint of racing. Another PR!

From Kerry on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 20:28:37

Great race, Lybi! That's what it's all about -- turning self-doubts and fears into excitement about facing a challenge.

From Michelle on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 22:31:59

So I missed the whole drama of the race but it sounds like it all turned out great. Good job on the race!!! So it sounds like you are going to be getting into town in good time friday. I'm not sure what time we'll be getting there or who is coming with me, but ut sounds like I'd like to stop by the expo if they have some good deals. I'm guessing that anyone can buy the stuff there? Looking forward to meeting everyone, are we all going to get together and do a run or is everyones time going to be a little crunched getting to the party and pre-race hype in? Either way it should be a good time!

From Mik'L on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 23:31:46

Good job Lybi! You are smokin on these races! I won't be able to keep up if we go for a run next weekend. I guess we need to try and plan that. When is everyone getting there/leaving?

From Lybi on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 23:45:29

Michelle: The expo is great, we're gonna have to squeeze that in somehow. BTW I thought of you in the race. There was a girl right behind me as I was coming in named Michelle, and all her friends were yelling "get her Michelle!" It was sad to be the bad guy, but I remembered your comment about understanding the race mentality and I beat her soundly. Anybody who wants to beat me right at the end has to be willing to bleed. So thanks.

Kerry: Thanks! You are right, as always.

Cody: Thanks, Headband Man! I don't think it'll take much encouragement to get me to run the next one. This one was so great! But it WILL take much persuasion to get me to try longer races, I've decided. Possibly even a bribe. Possibly even overt coercion!

Adrianne: Thanks! My secret dream is to write music with lyrics. Don't tell anyone. He he.

Dustin, you are hitting below the belt! You know I can't say anything bad about a guy who runs AND plays piano! You're off the punk list.

Brent: 100 pts! I thought you would take off a few for the lack of cartwheels at the end. The finish shoot was really narrow. Plus Michelle would've been kicked in the face...that's low even for me.

Dave: Perhaps you will feel better about being a punk if you consider that you are a leader of the punks--like a king, almost. I know I feel better about it because I know you are a high school teacher, and there is no better purgatory for punks than teaching young punks all day. (He he he!) Thanks for the comments.

Shauna: We are going to have to get together sometime. I need someone to help me get my first real long run under my belt some time in the next few months!

Tom: thanks! I hope so. At 30 seconds per month, I'll be there by the 1 year anniversary of starting to run again. Yikes! I better step it up.

From Kristina on Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 23:48:50

Great job Lybi! The more I read your blog, the more I get excited to keep running and to get in better shape. Your race results make me excited to run a race in the future. I hope you keep getting better and better. I'm sure you will because you are awesome.

And extra congratulations for not getting lost. I got lost IN the Belen Well's Fargo parking lot yesterday. I drove around and around trying to get out and I was so confused. So you can only imagine how I would do driving in Phoenix. :)

From Jon on Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 00:02:33

Nice race! The hard work pays off.

From Clay on Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 00:48:09

Nice job Lybi, you are really kicking some butt... Congrats on the PR too.

From Michael on Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 20:50:11

Way to go Lybi - good time and sounds like youre really improving great

From Dave Holt on Mon, Oct 01, 2007 at 11:31:35

A king of the punks ... hmmmmm... I kind of like the sound of that!
