1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

5 Miles on the treadmill in 51:50.  I was watching "The Count of Monte Cristo".  Good flick.  Even better book.  Anyone read it?

The book is way better than the movie in my opinion!

From Bethany on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 17:36:52

I enjoyed both for different reasons. the book was a lot different than I expected. (in a good way) I would definitely read the book first!

From Bethany on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 17:37:19

PS, Yikes Lybi! How did you manage 5 miles on the treadmill? I get bored after 3! Nice job

From andee on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 18:42:10

Good job with 5 miles on the treadmill. Looks like you and I had the same idea today. I've never read the book, but really liked the movie. Much better than my entertainment which was "Clifford and Dragon Tails".

From Jody on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 19:52:34

Nice job on the treadmill. I have not read the book but I loved the movie. I guess I need to read the book.

Way to go...5 miles on the treadmill is an accomplishment! I have only seen the movie, but I love it (and own it!).

From Shauna on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 21:33:26

Do you have a treadmill at your house? I think that should be on my Christmas list!

I think I read the book in junior high and hated it, but it seems to be a book that would be more enjoyed by an older person. Maybe I'll give it a whirl again...

Lybi, tough as nails? A fall can't keep this runner down. Treadmill, only way, rock n roll with no sense of time or distance, don't look down. Count, the ultimate payback. Lesson from this flick, just enjoy. No time for books unless traveling or a training book (except reading to the grand kiddies, does that count?).

I liked the movie because of the great actors. Especially that old guy, you know, the "real" Dumbledore guy. And I like how happy it ends. The plot of the movie is VERY simplified, but I think it really captures the message and overall feeling of the book.

The book is REALLY long, with lots of characters to keep track of. That would make it hard to read as a youngun, Shauna. But it is so well written! This book has it all. It is a page turner, with action, adventure, romance, deep themes, and a moralistic feel to it. This is the most engaging book I've ever read that is more than 200 years old. Well, darn it, I like "Pride and Prejudice" a lot too. It's tough to say.

And I have a treadmill. The belt slips a little, so sometimes it tries to buck me off. I don't have to worry about cars hitting me though! Fair trade.

From Michelle on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 23:40:33

(Laughing!!!) the image of the treadmill bucking you off! (There used to be one at the gym like that, so I can say I've been there myself!)

You have peeked my intrest, maybe I should get my hands on that book. The problem is that this time of year it's so hard to find time to read.. I've been meaning to read the last Harry Potter and many more but there never seems to be any time, untill I read the first chapter and then everything else goes out the window! I just don't think that I can get away with that right now!

From James W on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 00:20:18

Wow, way to go with 5 miles on the ol' treadmill, sweetie! Sounds like a much better day than yesterday. Personally, I am surprised that you could handle the belt slippage (I couldn't, but I am also much heavier than you). We really need to get it fixed, I just keep forgetting 'cuz their customer service closes just about the time I get home. BTW, Count of Monte Cristo, loved the movie, I also loved the old guy (Richard Harris, everyone), and had picked up the book remembering the movie. I was amazingly captivated (ask Lybi). I highly recommend the book, it is a great read for an adult. I probably would have hated it as a teenager.

RW is about all i can read for now! The movie is great. Good job on 5 with the treadmill! let it snow!

Lybi, you have a good sense of humor, I like the helmet on Sammy. I'm going to give my bike helmet a try. All in fun with James.

From James on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 18:31:15

Yes all is fun with me. Nice job on your run today and I love to see that 5.00 mile posting. I would be disappointed if you would have calculated those extra 10 steps and put 5.012928374 miles.

From Lybi on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 18:37:20

James--Congrats on finishing your student teaching James, I just saw that. Any school would be lucky to get you. Let's just hope the school mascot doesn't get to close to you on one of your runs!

And by the way, you missed my run from today, apparently, something like 4.3233589.

From James on Fri, Dec 07, 2007 at 18:46:16

Thanks Lybi, some school will be extremely blessed to have me. And the mascot only need worry if he looks like Sammy, whatever it looks like?

By the way, I saw your todays report, but from now on I will only comment on the good I see on the blog, because Dave thinks I am too negative. And you missed my comment on today.
