My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Yesterday I never got around to running, so feel a little blah about that.  This morning I intended to run 2 miles while pushing a cantankerous non-jogging stroller.  I made it 1.5 miles.  That's still better than nothing, nevertheless, I felt lame.  Battling a little discouragement.  Why am I so tired?  I've been getting good sleep. . . . I do have a very sore throat, but it doesn't seem to be progressing into a real illness.  Oh well, just keep on keeping on, right?  Ying and yang.

This evening I really enjoyed taking my 6 year old for a run.  He did a good mile at what seemed a pretty confortable pace to me--probably about 12 min.  I feel so proud of him that I didn't even think about getting tired or wanting to stop.

Good work. You should not expect every day to be good. In fact, when I start training really hard, most of the days I do not feel that good at all, before or after the run, it is just not any worse after. It is like a long unending daze, except somehow I am able to push through it when the time comes to run fast. Also, do not make up for lost days, train normally, and if the break has been sufficiently long, then resume at a lower volume/intensity and ease into it. The train is gone, and you should not try to chase it on foot, catch the next train.

Ahhh the wisdom . . . Thanks Sasha. It is good to know that even you don't always feel super duper. I need to learn to slip into "daze" mode and just get 'er done.
