My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

*Whew*  I am sore from yesterday's long run.  The thing that concerns me the most is right above my second toe, on the top of my foot.  It niggles when I flex my toes up, push off that foot, or when I touch it.

It's been awhile, but I posted something similar on the discussion board about the same toe. It hurt a little like you said and then eventually blood started to pool underneath the nail. I still have the toenail after all this time, but it looks like it could fall off anytime. I believe Jon was the one who gave me advice on how to jab it with a needle.

From Brent on Sun, Dec 30, 2007 at 15:55:30

Lybi, if you lose the toenail, you are really a real runner. Every respectable runner loses a toenail every year or two. Hopefully, it is just a toenail, nothing too serious. If you don't already, I would recommend that you put some lubricant on your toes before a long run.

I remember that post, Scott. How could I forget? I still have nightmares about it occasionally. (JK)

To think that I've reached the point where I have to lube my toes, Brent. What a milestone...

I really don't think it is the toenail, though--it is much higher up, where my toe connects to my foot. The "knuckle" that is actually part of my foot (above the toe) is the thing that complains.

So Lybi, I read Kims blog and it looks like you are going for a 9.00 min. pace for Painters? I'm not sure that I am that fast... Well I know that I'm not because I don't run that now! The other thing is I am still not 100% decided on Painters... A few weeks ago I did something to my knee, nothing serious it just aches inside and I'm just deciding how it's tolerating the long runs... So far pretty good. I'll decide by next week for sure. After another long run. But I'm not sure that I'll be able to keep up with you at that quick of a pace! I can't believe how fast you ran your long run yesterday, you were definatley feeling it!!

From Lybi on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 11:15:03

Don't worry Michelle. It is Sasha's will that I run it at 9:00 pace, not mine! At the Striders half marathon I probably will try for that, but not Painters.

I hope your knee feels better soon. Don't worry about the pace at Painters, I'm just going to do whatever it takes to finish alive.

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 13:18:43

What do you mean exactly by "niggles"?

From Lybi on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 17:06:55

Sasha--it's kind of like when one of your kids is attacking you while you are on the phone. It doesn't really hurt, but it annoys...

Today my toe is feeling fine. Too bad my quads are completely useless! I am so sore that if I am just standing there, I lock my knees. If someone comes up to me and taps me behind the knees, they buckle and I almost fall down! There will be no descending stairs today!

From James on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 17:25:21

Hope that foot stops niggling soon! Niggles are the worst!
