1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Well!  Sparky did such a great job on our run today!  He seemed to finally understand that we are trying to go on a somewhat linear course.  I took him out for just one mile and we did it in 9:41.  That's a PR for him by over a minute.   He would have gone faster (especially at the beginning) if I had let him.

Then I ran a mile alone in 9:04, which felt surprisingly good to me.  I didn't look at my Garmin and just ran what I thought was sub 10 pace--I looked down at a quarter mile and it said I was going around 8:00.  Yea!  I pushed it a little the rest of the run, but still felt quite comfortable.  .3 cool down just to get back home at 10:13 pace.

2 more miles with Holly tonight.   My hip hurt.  Darn that hip!  I think it gets tender after every time I push the pace at all.  Just have to be patient, I guess.  Run a little slower for a little longer--and get back to the chiro.

Did you notice that I changed my goals?  I want to run a Boston Qualifier someday.  That is a huge step for me to even admit that.

I like the short-term goals even better: "provide comedic relief for the stressed out runners on this blog." Stressed out runners?! What stressed out runners?! Are you talking to me?! :D Goals are one of those things that help us to improve. Keep working hard - you are already making big strides. Love you!

Aw! I left out the most important thing--that I want to be able to keep up with you for more than a mile on your easy runs (they will be threshold miles for me). XOXOX

Impressive new goals, Lybi! I like them. But your short term goal of providing comic relief was met the first time you blogged!!!!!! 9:04 pace - that's awesome!

Very good goal. You could probably find a race where you'd win an overall award right now, although you would have to look. I've seen 5 K races where the winning time for women was over 25:00. In about 6 months, you may not have to look as hard.

As your fitness increases you need to be careful. It does not increase uniformly in all areas. E.g suppose your aerobic fitness, neural drive, and muscular strength increase, but your bones are lagging behind. If you run at a comfortable pace, pushing it only a bit, you may damage the weak bones. I would recommend not breaking 9:45 on any of your runs even if you feel good for the next three weeks. Invest the extra energy into going longer.
