My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Today was the first day my throat feels (mostly) better.   I'm glad I took some time off, but it felt really good to run again.   2 Miles on the treadmill at 5.5 for most of it.

I had to change my running goals.  I get sick every time I push myself at all, so I'm just going to relax and jog some everyday.  Then build up so gradually that it will look like I'm not building up.  Probably won't race for . . . I dunno--long time.  It's still really good to run, even if racing is not involved.  Health, happiness--all that good stuff.

Today is our 10th wedding anniversary!  Starting to sound impressive!   James is the sweetest guy!

Happy Anniversary! 10 years is impressive! I can totally understand the goals you have and there's nothing wrong with them-some of us run to stay in shape and be healthier. I figure if we start now, we should still be able to run later in life rather than trying to start later when it sounds a lot harder to get in to.

Happy aniversary, congrats on 10 yrs. My wife an I will be celebrating our 28th in a few weeks. Keep going on the running, just take little baby steps and before you know it you will be right were you want to be.

Happy Anniversary, you are right on with running for enjoyment. Good to see you feel better. Enjoy the run along life and enjoy each running experience. Your right, my wife is tough, sensitive, smart, and all that stuff.

Happy Ann! 10 is a biggie. Nice pic of the temple on your page (is that the AZ one?)

To answer your question about what we do for water on the run- I go out the evening before and stash drinks! I had water at about 3 miles and gatorade at about 5. Then we can use the same drinks out & back. Usually hide them in a bush or something. Crazy huh?

Happy anniversary, and welcome the 10+ year club!

The first year of running you can improve very well, in fact better, without pushing yourself very much. The pushing must happen in the area of getting out and getting through the distance, not in how fast you run the distance. Also, one rule about pushing is that if you push beyond your ability to recover you break down. One way to avoid overtraining is to cut down the training. That in some cases is a necessary evil. However, before you do that you should always go through your recovery procedures and make sure they are optimal for your circumstances. Diet could very easily tip the balance between growing and crashing with the exact same training/sleep/non-running activities routine. There is a reason I will not touch certain foods. There is also a reason I will not run my regular mileage and intensity if certain foods are not available, or if I am forced to eat lesser quality foods, or if I cannot get the right amount of sleep, or if the work/non-running life stress increases to a certain critical point.

Hope youre feeling better

When I lived in Arizona (and true in Utah too), the dry air got to my throat alot - it would ge dry and then often sore, best way to avoid seemed to be getting enough fluids with the dry air and heat there so I forced myself to drink more frequently
